Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 18 – Gorgeous Grape

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 18 – Gorgeous Grape

Welcome to week eighteen of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 18 – Gorgeous Grape

Gorgeous Grape is indeed a gorgeous colour, but I have to admit I do sometimes feel intimidated by the bright colours. This is why I decided to create my first card card using water colouring and stamping off to reduce the intensity of the colours.

My colour palette for this week combines Gorgeous Grape with other bright and vibrant colours: Pretty Peacock, Melon Mambo, Old Olive and Whisper White.

I’ve used the Floral Essence stamp set for my card, along with the greenery embossing folder. But because the largest floral stamp in this set is an outline stamp and the two smaller flowers are solid colour stamps, I stamped the largest flower outline stamp in versamark ink before adding white emboss powder and heat embossing it. This technique allowed all the flowers on this card to be a single colour without any black outline.

I used my water painter to watercolour the largest flower with ink from my Gorgeous Grape inkpad, using Old Olive for the centre of the flower.

The other flowers were stamped off once in Pretty Peacock and Melon Mambo, the leaves in Old Olive, before fussy cutting them all out.

The sentiment is also from the Floral Essence stamp set, stamped onto Gorgeous Grape card stock in versamark ink before adding white emboss powder and heat embossing it.

The Gold Hoop embellishment and gold twine bow are the final touch to add some sparkle and bling to my card.

After making my first card I decided to be brave and bold and use these colours at full strength — I know, shock, horror, right???!!!

But how gorgeous indeed do these vibrant colours look against Basic Black!

I used Basic Black instead of Whisper White for my embossed layer – I love the contrast of Basic Black against strong colours. It really makes them pop!

The Gorgeous Grape flower is created using two of the same flowers, layered on top of each other, curled up with a bone folder and adhered using glue dots. The spotted patterned paper layer is from the Brights 6×6 Designer Series Paper.

I’m so glad I used these colours at full strength because I think I actually prefer my second card!

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Gorgeous Grape.

Next Tuesday we’ll be showcasing one of the Brights: Granny Apple Green. We hope you can join us all then.

Macrame Feather Slimline Cards

Macrame Feather Slimline Cards

Have you ever made a macrame feather? Did you even know macrame feathers are a thing?

Last month I saw a beautiful handmade card with a macrame feather on social media and so I decided to design a birthday card featuring a macrame feather for my crafting partner in crime, Jenny Boffey, who loves to do macrame as much as she loves to make cards.

I don’t tend to use Very Vanilla as often as I prefer to use Whisper White, but Very Vanilla looks amazing with gold foil — and I wanted to use the tag from the Boho Indigo Product Medley to stamp my sentiment on.

The “A Bunch of Birthday Love to You” sentiment I stamped on my card is also from the Boho Indigo stamp set that comes in the Product Medley.

Here’s a close up of the macrame feather – it is knotted onto a Gold Hoop embellishment and made from some retired Very Vanilla bakers twine. The Forever Greenery trim combo pack co-ordinates perfectly and the largest die from the Fabulous Florals dies was used to die cut the gold foil background.

After I made this birthday card I was also been commissioned to make a couple of wedding cards featuring a macrame feather.

The basic design of the card is the same but I’ve used a different sentiment and swapped out the Crumb Cake card base for Very Vanilla.

For my wedding card design I’ve use the “always and forever” sentiment from the Forever Blossoms stamp set, stamped in Versamark ink before adding gold emboss powder and heat embossing it.

The feather is on a different angle on this card but made in exactly the same way as the macrame feather on the birthday card.

Did you notice the gold foiled envelope sitting under my card? I made it to match the gold and Very Vanilla colour theme using gold foiled DSP from the Ornate Garden DSP.

Want to make a macrame feather yourself?

It’s easy to do, just a little bit fiddly working at this small scale. You’ll need a Gold Hoop embellishment, two 25 cm lengths of bakers twine and fourteen 12cm lengths of bakers twine. Then follow the steps below to make your feather.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 12 Crumb Cake

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 12 Crumb Cake

Welcome to week twelve of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 12 – Crumb Cake

I have to confess that Crumb Cake is my favourite and most used Stampin’ Up! colour, although Gray Granite has given it a run for its money since joining the Neutrals family.

I like to think of Crumb Cake as a “bridesmaid” colour – not to dark, not too light. It sits beautifully in the background, complementing any colour it is paired with without vying for attention and yet it also looks amazing on its own. This is why for me, Crumb Cake really is the perfect neutral.

There were so many colour combinations I could have used for my projects today but in the end I decided to stick with a combination of neutrals, using stamping off to add some lighter shades to my colour palette.

What started out as a clean and simple card has actually become the opposite, but that’s how I craft! And although this is not my usual style I actually love the soft, feminine and “vintagey” vibe of my wreath card.

The Dainty Diamonds embossing folder is fast becoming my favourite embossing folder – I can’t seem to stop using it! I’ve laid it onto a Crumb Cake card base and framed it with another new favourite – brushed metallic cardstock.

This photo better shows the burnished sheen the card stock gives – it is hard to photograph but simply luscious in real life!

I know it looks like I’ve used Rococo Rose to stamp my flowers, but it is actually Merry Merlot stamped off once, twice and also used at full strength for the middle of the flowers. I’ve also stamped off Crumb Cake to add variety to the leaves and buds.

Did you notice the beautiful Gold Hoop Embellishment that I used to create my wreath peeking out from beneath the foliage?

I had originally designed a card for today based on a pot and vase I had stamped in Memento before colouring in with my Crumb Cake blends, but I ended up making the wreath card instead.

Because I hate wasting leftovers (and I also had leftover flowers and foliage) I quickly made two note cards, this time using Crumb Cake card stock embossed with the Dainty Diamonds embossing folder.

The Crumb Cake blends make it super easy to give dimension to any image. I used the colour lifter bend pen in the middle of my vase card to create the shine that a vase would naturally throw.

The pot card, like the vase card, is finished off with a bow of linen thread – in my opinion linen thread and Crumb Cake really are a match made in heaven!

I have to admit I probably like my last minute leftover note cards as much as the intricate wreath card that took soooo much more time to make! Ain’t that often the way with crafting, LOL!

I deliberately left sentiments of my note cards so they can be used for any occasion. I often do this and leave my card insides blank so I can stamp the appropriate sentiment in the card as I need it.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Crumb Cake today. Click on the links below to see what they’ve made.

Next Tuesday we’ll be showcasing one of the Regals family: Crushed Curry. We hope you can join us all then.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 6 Bumble Bee

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 6 Bumble Bee

Welcome to week six of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 6 – Bumblebee

Bumblebee is one of the brand new 2020-22 In Colors. It is available in a wide range of products including:

  • Bumblebee Classic Stampin’ Pad and ink refill,
  • 2020–2022 In Color Stampin’ Write marker,
  • 2020-22 In Color Designer Series 6×6 Paper,
  • World of Good Specialty DSP and Memories & More Pack,
  • Flowers for Every Season 6×6 DSP, Memories & More pack and Memories & More Cards and Envelopes,
  • Ornate Garden DSP,
  • Bumblebee 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon,
  • 2020–2022 In Color Ribbon,
  • 2020–2022 In Colour Enamel Dots
  • Any of the 2020-22 In Colors collections.

I was short of time to create this week so I needed to make some very simple cards that required no stamping, punching, die cutting or embossing …the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Card Pack and matching card bases and envelopes came to my rescue!

Memories & More Card Packs are so versatile – they can be used for both scrapbooking and card making. Here’s what you get in the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Card Pack.

I’ve only used Memories & More cards that feature Bumblebee for my cards tonight, but the patterns on the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Pack include all of the lovely 2020-2022 In Colors. They also co-ordinate with and have many of the same patterns as the Flowers for Every Season 6×6 DSP.

These first four floral cards each have a different sentiment which is cut from one of the small Memories & More cards and simply mounted onto a strip of Whisper White card stock. Each of the small Memories & More cards and layered onto a piece of Bumblebee card stock and adhered to a small Memories & More card.

I also made three cards using the larger Memories & More cards with some co-ordinating elements.

My sunflower card uses stickers from the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Pack. I love the ombre effect in the “celebrate” sticker and how beautifully the floral cluster stickers co-ordinate with the Memories & More base card.

My second card features a bow of the Bumblebee 2020-2022 In Color Ribbon attached to one of the new gold hoop embellishments. I mounted the Memories & More card onto some Just Jade card stock.

My base card is the Bumblebee card from the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Cards and Envelopes.

The final card simply needed a bow with a Bumblebee enamel dot. I could have used any of the 2020-2022 In Color ribbons but this sweet bow sticker from the Memories & More pack provided a quick and easy way to finish off the card.

The Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Pack and Memories & More Cards and Envelopes are just so beautiful. I love how they make no-stamping and no-fuss card making a breeze…in no time at all.
