Stampin’ Up! Coastal Cabana – Week 12 AWH Colour Creations Blog Hop

Welcome to week 12 of our 2021-22 Colour Creations blog hop! Tonight we are showcasing Coastal Cabana, a colour from the Brights family.

Did I hear you say “step away from the Be Dazzling DSP, Catherine”? Well, sorry, not sorry, I just can’t seem to stop using this SALE-a-bration specialty DSP!

Tonight’s Coastal Cabana card pairs something old (the All Things Fabulous stamp set and the Fabulous Floral dies) with something new (the FREE Be Dazzling DSP). The colour combination I’ve used is one I’m always drawn to for summer dresses, scarves and earrings: Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay, Gray Granite, Basic White and of course, the gorgeous champagne gold sparkle of the Be Dazzling DSP.

The largest flowers on my card are stamped using 3-step stamps that gradually layer up the colour of the flower – each level of stamp is numbered inside the stamp case. There are so many different colour combinations you can create with this type of stamp. Here’s how I inked up my flowers for this card.

  • Stamp the largest flower stamps (1A, 2A and 3A) in Coastal Cabana, stamped off once
  • Stamp the middle stamps (1B, 2B and 3B) in full strength Coastal Cabana
  • Stamp the smallest, top stamp (1C, 2C and 3C) in full strength Bermuda Bay

The leaves were stamped in Gray Granite, both at full strength and stamped off. I also die cut a few leaves from the Be Dazzling DSP and added 5mm strips of the Be Dazzling DSP at the top and bottom of my card, sitting beside the largest, intricate lacy die (from the Fabulous Floral dies) that has been cut in half and placed either side of the main front panel.

I used some left over stamped and die cut sprigs and leaves to decorate the inside of my card.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the very talented Caroline Manwaring. I can’t wait to see what she’s made this week!

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 12 Crumb Cake

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 12 Crumb Cake

Welcome to week twelve of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 12 – Crumb Cake

I have to confess that Crumb Cake is my favourite and most used Stampin’ Up! colour, although Gray Granite has given it a run for its money since joining the Neutrals family.

I like to think of Crumb Cake as a “bridesmaid” colour – not to dark, not too light. It sits beautifully in the background, complementing any colour it is paired with without vying for attention and yet it also looks amazing on its own. This is why for me, Crumb Cake really is the perfect neutral.

There were so many colour combinations I could have used for my projects today but in the end I decided to stick with a combination of neutrals, using stamping off to add some lighter shades to my colour palette.

What started out as a clean and simple card has actually become the opposite, but that’s how I craft! And although this is not my usual style I actually love the soft, feminine and “vintagey” vibe of my wreath card.

The Dainty Diamonds embossing folder is fast becoming my favourite embossing folder – I can’t seem to stop using it! I’ve laid it onto a Crumb Cake card base and framed it with another new favourite – brushed metallic cardstock.

This photo better shows the burnished sheen the card stock gives – it is hard to photograph but simply luscious in real life!

I know it looks like I’ve used Rococo Rose to stamp my flowers, but it is actually Merry Merlot stamped off once, twice and also used at full strength for the middle of the flowers. I’ve also stamped off Crumb Cake to add variety to the leaves and buds.

Did you notice the beautiful Gold Hoop Embellishment that I used to create my wreath peeking out from beneath the foliage?

I had originally designed a card for today based on a pot and vase I had stamped in Memento before colouring in with my Crumb Cake blends, but I ended up making the wreath card instead.

Because I hate wasting leftovers (and I also had leftover flowers and foliage) I quickly made two note cards, this time using Crumb Cake card stock embossed with the Dainty Diamonds embossing folder.

The Crumb Cake blends make it super easy to give dimension to any image. I used the colour lifter bend pen in the middle of my vase card to create the shine that a vase would naturally throw.

The pot card, like the vase card, is finished off with a bow of linen thread – in my opinion linen thread and Crumb Cake really are a match made in heaven!

I have to admit I probably like my last minute leftover note cards as much as the intricate wreath card that took soooo much more time to make! Ain’t that often the way with crafting, LOL!

I deliberately left sentiments of my note cards so they can be used for any occasion. I often do this and leave my card insides blank so I can stamp the appropriate sentiment in the card as I need it.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Crumb Cake today. Click on the links below to see what they’ve made.

Next Tuesday we’ll be showcasing one of the Regals family: Crushed Curry. We hope you can join us all then.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 8 Calypso Coral

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 8 Calypso Coral

Welcome to week eight of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 8 – Calypso Coral

Calypso Coral is in the subtles family but as the brightest of the subtles it really holds its own when combined with any of the brights, the regals or the neutrals – Calypso Coral really is a versatile colour. So when I saw a card created by Maria Cowans (a Stampin’ Up! demo located in the UK) I decided to create a card like hers, inspired by the Stampin’ Up! logo and using the same stunning colour combination.

Maria’s beautiful card is pictured below beside the Stampin’ Up! folder that inspired her design.

Calypso Coral looks incredible when paired with these other vibrant colours: Night of Navy, Old Olive, Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry and Whisper White.

Maria used the brand new “All Things Fabulous” bundle to recreate the Stampin’ Up! floral design. This is a fabulous bundle if you enjoy two step stamping – it reminds me of “Jar of Love” which is one of my all time favourite Stampin’ Up! stamp sets.

Would you believe I had just ordered the “All Things Fabulous” bundle but it hadn’t arrived yet? So I decided to make a quite different card, one that uses the same colours in the Stampin’ Up! folder, but made with the floral stamps in the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set instead.

This card was very quick and easy to make. I stamped the large magnolia image and two of the smaller buds onto Watercolour paper using Black StazOn ink.

The Good Morning Magnolia Stamp is a double stamp set and it has co-ordinating Magnolia Memory dies which I used to cut out my flowers.

I used my new Water Painters to colour in my magnolias with Night of Navy, the buds with Calypso Coral, the leaves with Old Olive and the centre of the main flower with Crushed Curry.

Water colouring with ink pads is so easy to do. You simply tap an acrylic block onto the surface of your ink pad to pick up the colour and then lift the ink off your block with your water painters.

Once my water coloured flowers were dry I cut the flowers away from the leaves with my paper snips and trimmed closer to the stamp outline before rearranged the elements onto a Whisper White panel. I adhered this to a Night of Navy card base, which is simply a sheet of A4 card stock cut in half and then folded in half.

The “Thanks” sentiment is stamped in Night of Navy and comes from the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set as well.

As soon as I had finished this card my “All Things Fabulous” bundle arrived in the post! So I decided to make a second card, this time more closely CASED on Maria’s one.

I used the “Wishing you all things fabulous” sentiment from the All Things Fabulous stamp set – I really love sentiments that have two different fonts on them, like this one.

This was such a quick card to make – it took me less than 5 minutes and the design evolved as I went. You really can’t go wrong with a floral stamp set like this.

For several of the Night of Navy and Calypso Coral flowers I stamped off the ink once before stamping the larger part of the flower and then stamped the ink at full strength for the second stamp that forms the middle of the flower.

I’m not sure which card I prefer. But I do think that this Calypso Coral colour combination really works well whether you use it for water colouring or for two set stamping and stamping off.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Calypso Coral today. Click on the links below to see what they’ve made.
