Week 24 – Mango Melody

When I saw this beautiful card on Pinterest – created by Tammy Wilson, a USA Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and member of the Artisan Design Team – it instantly evoked a very special memory for me.

In 2018 I visited New York, Indianapolis and Hawaii with my husband and two sons – it was our first big holiday as a family and the first time all four of us went overseas together. We went to celebrate my 50th birthday and more importantly to finally meet and thank my amazing bone marrow donor Ben and his wife Christy.

This incredible trip was one of the happiest times of my life and now with COVID I’m forever grateful we were able to enjoy this special trip together.

Tammy’s card immediately reminded me of the stunning trees in Central Park, New York and Indianapolis – the soft colour of the sky and the shape of the tree branches is totally different to we have here in Australia. Here’s a few photos I took of this soft winter sky with the silhouettes of the winter trees.

My first card today is a much simpler version of Tammy’s card and it uses slightly different colours. I love these shades of orange and brown together: Mango Melody, Cinnamon Cider, Early Espresso and Whisper White.

To create my background I’ve used a really fun watercolour technique that creates a different look every time.

  • Spritz a sheet of Fluid 100 Watercolour paper several times with your Stampin’ Spritzer
  • Tap an acrylic block onto Mango Melody ink pad to cover the surface of the block with the ink
  • Use your widest water painter to lift Mango Melody ink off your acrylic block and paint it onto the Fluid 100 Watercolour paper
  • Tap another acrylic block, this time onto your Cinnamon Cider ink pad and then use your widest water painter to paint some Cinnamon Cider ink onto your Fluid 100 Watercolour paper
  • Spritz the paper again with your Stampin’ Spritzer (watch the inks merge together at the edges) and then dry the ink using your heat tool
  • Stamp the largest tree stamp in Early Espresso ink, and then stamp the “shadows” stamp in Early Espresso ink underneath the group of trees
  • Flick the thick end of your Early Espresso Stampin’ Write marker with your finger to create splatters all over the card

My sentiment is also from the Winter Woods stamp set – I used my Early Espresso marker to colour just the “thinking of you” section of the sentiment before stamping and then die cutting the sentiment out with stitched rectangle die to match the larger stitched rectangle die I used to cut the water coloured layer.

I couldn’t resist making one more card with this stamp set because it also is the perfect stamp set for the acrylic block stamping technique. If you’ve never tried this technique please give it a go – it is so easy and so effective.

You simply ink up an acrylic block (I used size C) by tapping it onto your stamp pad, then spritz it with your Stampin’ Spritzer and stamp the acrylic block directly to your paper. This time I used Whisper White but this technique looks great on watercolour paper too.

Once you’ve dried your ink background, stamp the tree stamp over the top in Early Espresso ink. I wanted a small sentiment to fit in the gap between the two tree branches on the far right and the “Hello” sentiment from the Well Said stamp set was the perfect fit.

Both my cards were finished off with a simple bow of linen thread.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 10 Cinnamon Cider

Welcome to week ten of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 10 – Cinnamon Cider

Cinnamon Cider is a 2020-22 In Color and one of the exciting new products available in this colour is a velveteen paper. You’ll find the velveteen paper pack is on page 153 of the 2020 Annual Catalogue and this soft flocked paper comes in Cinnamon Cider, Highland Heather and Soft Sea Foam.

I thought this soft velvety paper would be ideal for bringing the rabbit from the Nature’s Beauty stamp set to life, so my cards this week feature this darling little rabbit.

How adorable is does he look stamped with Memento Ink onto the Cinnamon Cider velveteen paper? I die cut the image using a circle die and mounted it onto a scalloped circle of Basic Black die cut using the larger scalloped circle die from the layering circle dies.

It’s really hard to show the soft texture of this velveteen paper and the effect of the subtle embossing on the Whisper White card stock but this close up gives you a clearer view. I just can’t stop stroking this tiny little Cinnamon Cider bunny. His fluffy white tail was coloured with the Chalk Marker.

For card two my bunny rabbit has moved to the woods. I’ve stamped him onto Whisper White card stock, coloured him in with my Cinnamon Cider blends and created a landscape using my Basic Black marker to extend the lines in the stamps.

The background Woodland embossing folder really pairs well with the Nature’s Beauty stamps.

Card three continues the woodland theme, this time with a background stamped using the tree trunk stamp from the Winter Wood stamp set. I stamped my tree trunk stamp in Cinnamon Cider ink onto Cinnamon Cider card stock before using my Chalk Marker to add White.

I love how the Wrapped in Texture embossing folder echos the snow I added to the trees. You get two embossing folders in this pack and you’ll find them on page 9 of the August-December 2020 Mini Catalogue.

The white dot on top of my linen thread bow is another new product from the August-December 2020 Mini Catalogue – the All the Trimmings Embellishments on page 25.

All three cards have the same sentiment “Thinking of You” which I created using the marker technique.

The sentiment in the Winter Woods set actually says “Thinking of You This Season” but by using my Cinnamon Cider marker to just colour in the “thinking of you” section of the stamp I was able to create a more versatile and year round sentiment for my cards.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 7 Cajun Craze

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 7 Cajun Craze

Welcome to week seven of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 7 – Cajun Craze

Cajun Craze is in the Regal Family and to be honest it is probably the Stampin’ Up! colour that I use the least, so deciding what to create was a bit of a challenge today.

If I’m ever stumped with a colour combination I usually look to nature for inspiration but it was actually something man made in my home that provided the perfect inspiration for my card today.

These beautiful encaustic tiles are in my “powder room”, which is just a posh way of saying the loo off my laundry, LOL!

When we renovated I couldn’t afford to tile the entire wall so I simply tiled a strip of assorted patterns above the wash basin. It’s just a small detail but actually one of my favourite things in my house.

And what better bundle to create a card that reflects this tile pattern than the new Today’s Tiles stamp set and co-ordinating Field Tile dies.

I went a bit crazy and used a mix of colours that I would never usually put together but they were inspired by my tiles and I think they actually work together. Boy oh boy, am I stepping out of my comfort zone today!

Would you believe I’ve only used the one die to created all four cards? Because of the intricate design of this large tile die I was able to use a combination of layering different coloured card stock and the paper piecing technique to incorporate several colours into each card. Just don’t throw out the negative die pieces as you cut each colour – you’ll need these to all colours to your other coloured tile cards.

I used Cinnamon Cider as a base layer for each of my four cards and then used the large detailed die to cut out a tile in the other four colours: Cajun Craze, Pretty Peacock, Bumblebee and Balmy Blue.

Each card has a different coloured die cut layered over a square of another colour. I then paper pieced left over die cuts into the tile before layering my tile onto Cinnamon Cider, and layers of Whisper White and contrasting colours.

All four cards contain a different pattern that includes Cajun Craze, Pretty Peacock, Bumblebee, Cinnamon Cider and Balmy Blue.

And all the cards are finished off with either a Bumblebee or a Cinnamon Cider 2020-2022 In Color enamel dot in the centre of the tile..

It’s amazing how just one die cut four times can create so many different colour combinations when you mix up all the little die cut pieces! Do you have a favourite?
