Stampin’ Up! Smoky Slate Centre Step Elephant Parade Card

Stampin’ Up! Smoky Slate Centre Step Elephant Parade Card

Welcome to week forty six of our Art With Heart 2022-23 Colour Creations blog hop – only four more weeks to go!

This is a weekly blog hop where we showcase the stunning range of Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order over 12 months and this week we are featuring Smoky Slate from the Neutrals family.

Stampin’ Up! have a colour refresh happening and all the demonstrators get to find out the new colours and the retiring this Thursday morning – so exciting. Smoky Slate is part of the neutrals family – I love the versatility of all these neutrals and I don’t want any of them to retire!

I know it’s an obvious choice, however I couldn’t resist using the Elephant Parade bundle for my centre step card tonight. The cuteness factor in these elephants is simply wow!

The cardbase is Smoky Slate cardstock and the gorgeous background DSP on my centre step card is from the Happy Forest Friends Designer Series Paper.

I stamped the three elephants with Memento ink and then coloured them in using Smoky Slate and Flirty Flamingo Stampin Blends. The balloon is coloured in Flirty Flamingo Stampin Blends, the Monstera leaves in Old Olive Stampin Blends and the tree trunk is a stamp from the Sweet Songbirds stamp set, stamped in Basic Gray.

The sentiment is from the Elephant Parade Stamp set, cut using my paper snips.

Where’s the third elephant, I hear you ask? Well, why don’t you take a peek inside the card!

The grass on both the front and the inside of the card is die cut from Old Olive cardstock, using a die in the Elephant Parade dies.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Fiona Ryan – I can’t wait to see what Fiona has made this week!

Smoky Slate Symbols of Fortune Screen Card – AWH Colour Creations

Smoky Slate Symbols of Fortune Screen Card – AWH Colour Creations

Welcome to week 43 of our 2021-22 Colour Creations blog hop! Tonight we are showcasing Smoky Slate from the Neutrals family.

This gorgeous Symbols of Fortune Designer Series paper is so stunning I wanted to make a card that allowed me to showcase the 6 foiled sides that also feature Smoky Slate.

A screen card is the perfect type of fancy fold for this Asian-inspired DSP, so I designed a screen card using an A4 sheet of Smoky Slate cardstock, making it narrow enough to fit inside one of the new Slimline Envelopes.

To make the card base, trim 2.8 cm off the end of a piece of A4 card stock, then score and fold the cardstock at 9 cm and 18 cm. Cut 6 foil layers measuring 8.5 x 19 cm and adhere to both sides of the cardstock base as shown below. I didn’t have enough gold foil so I used silver foil instead.

To make the “feet” of the screen card I used the Label Me Lovely punch. Fold the card up and punch through all three layers at once so the feet align when the card is folded flat.

The DSP screen fronts measure 8 x 18.5 cm – there are 6 foiled patterns in the Symbols of Fortune DSP, so I used one of each design. This is the reverse side of the card – if you wanted somewhere to write a message you could add a panel of plain white cardstock to this side of the card.

The “happy birthday” sentiment is from Celebrate With flowers, stamped in Smoky Slate and die cut using the Ornate Layers dies.

I love how this vertical sentiment and the proportions of the Ornate Layer die both perfectly match the dimensions of this slimline card!

A scrap piece of Basic White cardstock was die cut using the same Ornate Layers die to create a matching address label for the front of the slimline card.

This fancy fold is a wonderful card design to send to someone who likes to display their cards as it stands up very well – it really does look like a mini screen!

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Kate Morgan – I can’t wait to see what Kate has made this week!

Stampin’ Up! Smoky Slate – Week 47 AWH Colour Creations Showcase

Stampin’ Up! Smoky Slate – Week 47 AWH Colour Creations Showcase

Yippee! The new 2021-22 Stampin’ Up! annual catalogue is live.

Have you placed an order and seen the exciting new items in it yet?

I’ve used some new products in my card today and I’m sure the other AWH team member will too as we showcase Smoky Slate, one of our neutral colours.

For my card this week I’ve decided to CASE a card from page 68 of the new catalogue. It’s the square card on the bottom left of the photo below of cards made using the new Simply Elegant Suite Collection.

The Simply Elegant Suite Collection includes a stamp set, punch, trim and this stunning Simply Elegant Specialty Designer Series Paper that features sophisticated intricate designs in these colours: Basic Black, Basic Gray, copper, gold, silver, Very Vanilla and white.

Although Smoky Slate is not one of the colours in the Simply Elegant Specialty Designer Series Paper I thought it would work very well with this colour palette.

Do you agree?

I don’t (yet!!!) have the Elegantly Said Stamp Set or the Elegant Tag Punch so I’ve used some other exciting new products to make my card.

The Better Place Stamp set is one you might overlook because it is a host set – you’ll find it on page 171 of the catalogue. I’m always very attracted to stamp sets that look like illustrations from books I remember as a child!

Instead of the Elegant Tag Punch I’ve used a new die set: Tailor Made Tags.

I bought with Christmas cards and tags in mind, but I can already see myself using these tags constantly for all types of cards.

I die cut the largest die in both vellum and Smoky Slate Card Stock before stamping in Smoky Slate ink onto the Smoky Slate card stock.

I then used a scrap of gold foil to die cut the little hole re-inforcers.

Did you notice the gold and silver trim tied through the top of the tag? It’s the Simply Elegant Trim from the Simply Elegant Suite Collection. Again, I bought this with Christmas Cards in mind but I doubt it will last that long at this rate!

I hope my card today inspires you to use your catalogue as inspiration to create your cards and projects even if you don’t have the exact same items that were used in the project you’re CASEing.

I can’t wait to see what everyone else has created with Smoky Slate today!

We will return next week on Wednesday May 12th when we’ll be showcasing a pale yellow: So Saffron.
