Welcome to week twenty-three of our Art With Heart 2024-25 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we’re featuring Early Espresso, a rich and deep brown from the neutrals family. It’s a fabulous colour for nature themed cards and also for masculine cards and I’ve used it today to create a special fun fold birthday card.

For the entire month of October you can save up to 30% off kits and there are currently over 30 different kits to choose from in the online store!

I’ve combined components of both the Birthday Sparkle kit (reduced to $39.10) and the Light the Candles Kit (reduced to $27.30) to create a special milestone card for my husband’s best friend from school who turned 60 yesterday!

To make a card large enough to hold 60 candles I’ve created 3 cards that sit inside a front and back panel.

The front and back Early Espresso panels each measure 14.9 x 10.5 cm – that’s 1/4 of an A4 sheet of cardstock. I then adhered a layer of Nature’s Sweetness Specialty Designer Series Paper to the front and the back measuring 14.4 x 10cm.

The inside sections of the card decorated with the candles are three cards each measuring 14.4 x 10cm, folded in half and scored.

Patty Bennett (a US Stampin’ Up! demonstrator) came up with the genius concept of making a simple paper hinge on the reverse side to join these three internal cards together to make one long fancy fold.

After adhering a strip of Early Espresso cardstock along the bottom of the right side of the extended fold (to give the appearance of chocolate cake) I’ve used Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Pecan Pie designs from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper to make my candles, cutting them into strips and alternating heights, colours and patterns of DSP.

The candle flames are created using the flame stickers from the Birthday Sparkle Kit, however there were only 25 in the kit so I punched our some gold foil (backed with an adhesive sheet) using the bough punch.

I cut leaves off the gold foil boughs with my paper snips to create the remaining flames.

For the front of the card I fussy cut the cake from one of the card bases in the Birthday Sparkle Kit, layering it over a piece of Kraft paper from the same kit.

The “Happy Birthday” was stamped in Early Espresso and the Alphabet à la Mode Dies were used to die cut the 60.

More stickers from the Birthday Sparkle Kit decorate the card front, along with the smaller leaves punched out with the bough punch for the flames.

Tags and candles from the Birthday Sparkle Kit decorate the blank spaces on the reverse of the card.

Another section of the Birthday Sparkle card base creates a lined section to write a message. The “Happy Happy Birthday” sentiment is from the Light the Candles Kit.
