Welcome to week 27 of our 2021-22 Colour Creations blog hop! Tonight we are showcasing Merry Merlot, a rich deep red wine colour that rather surprisingly sits within the neutrals family.
I love pairing Blushing Bride with Merry Merlot – for this card I’ve added in Pear Pizzazz and Garden Green for foliage and Basic Black and Basic White for contrast.

Recognise this Merry Merlot tartan plaid DSP? It’s actually the black and white check pattern from the Party Pattern DSP pack that I have customised to match the colour combination on my card.
I used my Stampin’ Write markers and ruler to add thin vertical lines of Merry Merlot and thick horizontal lines of Blushing Bride. This is such a quick and easy way to make your own DSP.
The flowers and leaves are die cut using the Christmas cheers dies and the poinsettia dies, with Petal Pink Elegant Faceted Gems adding some sparkle to the centre of the flowers.
Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Kate Morgan – I can’t wait to see what Kate has made this week!

The other comments here have given me a chuckle, too funny! I DO like merry merlot, and I DO like plaid, and I specially like your card. The colour combination is so beautifully balanced, and the hand drawn plaid just ties all those elements together.
Oh Cathy, what a gorgeous card. There are so many brilliant aspects and they all work together so well. Your addition of colours to build the plaid on the B&W DSP is inspired. I love your colour combo – Brushing Bride is beautiful with Merry Merlot. The poinsettias are delightful with the Elegant Faceted Gems as centres and the surrounding foliage. Xxx
OMG Cathy, this is gorgeous! I adore those colours and you have created the plaid paper with your hand drawn lines perfectly to match. Your little poinsettias are adorable with the holly and the sprigs. And then your feature circles slightly offset is just WOW.
Love, love, love, the colours, the extra details in the DSP, and all those tiny bits of foliage are gorgeous!
Cathy, this card is breathtaking!! The plaid background is so beautiful … thanks for the tip, for customising that paper (now for me to just remember to do that, as I am so impressed with the look!). I love everything about your card, even down to the Merry Merlot poinsettias, and that’s saying something because I really dislike this colour. LOL.
I love everything about this card, and that’s saying a LOT, because I really, really hate plaid!! I do love your hand-drawn additions, the offset circles, and the layering of the flowers and foliage around them. Perfection!
