Welcome to week three of our Art With Heart 2022-23 Colour Creations blog hop! We are showcasing each of the 5 new In Colours for the first 5 weeks before we then feature our core colours in alphabetical order for the rest of the year.
Our third new In Colour is Starry Sky, a rich and dramatic midnight blue.
Here’s what Starry Sky looks like in comparison to the other current Stampin’ Up! blues and blue/green aqua colours.
My card today is a belated Mother’s Day card for my mum who loves beautiful old china cups and anything blue and white – blue is her favourite colour. I’ve used both the Teacup Dies and the Flowers of Home Dies to create a Wedgewood like effect on my teacups.
Smaller dies can often be overlooked, but these dies from the Flowers of Home Dies are the perfect scale for these teacups. The “fern” die on the other teacups is one of the dies in the Teacup Die set.
My top tip for adding these detailed dies to the top of your teacups? Make sure you adhere an adhesive sheet to the reverse side of the cardstock you are die cutting BEFORE you die cut it with these floral dies. It makes it so much easier to adhere them without getting glue everywhere.
The Teacup Dies don’t have a saucer die, however that is easily fixed. The plain oval from the Double Oval Punch or the smallest plain oval die from the now retired Oval Layering Dies (these two ovals are virtually identical in size and shape) work perfectly as a saucer for the teacups.
I used my light Gray Granite and light Starry Sky Stampin’ Blends to draw a line under the base of each cup to “anchor” the cups into their saucers.
The “Happy Mother’s Day” sentiment from Flowering Tulips stamp set was the perfect shaped sentiment for this layout, however you could replace this sentiment with the “Happy Birthday” “Thank You”, “Thinking of You” or the “Hello” sentiment from the new Go To Greetings stamp set.
An oversized card requires an oversized envelope, so I made a simple one using one of the DSP patterns from the new stunning Sun Prints DSP.
Both sides of this DSP perfectly match the colours I’ve used in my card today: Starry Sky, Gray Granite and Basic White.
Gray Granite Baker’s Twine and two square white brads make an easy and stylish closure.
As well as mix and matching your dies, don’t forget to mix and match your stamp sets too. To make the perfect sentiment for my mum I combined the “Thank you” sentiment from the Cup of Tea Stamp set and the “love you so much” sentiment from the Flowering Tulips stamp set.
I added a capital “I” to make the sentiment read “I love you so much” by stamping the “/” stamp from the new Alphabest stamp set on an angle and it worked perfectly!

This is beautiful!
May I ask what size card this is?
Would love to CASE this.
Your card is simply fabulous. Gorgeous colouring and the use of the other little dies and the saucers, genius! The / for the I way to think outside the box. Just a beautiful card I just love it!
As you can imagine, I just loved the card!!!!
Cath and I often have a cuppa together, and we both love blue and white in crockery and everywhere!
Love all you creative cards
Yes, the saucer is the perfect addition for the tea cups. I’m very surprised there isn’t one in the set. This is a great layout with the sentiment duplicated. I bet your lovely mum adored this card when she opened it!
Cathy you have done a fabulous job imitating Wedgwood and I love how you have improvised for the saucer. Such a lovely card and a great idea for the matching envelope.
Your card is so inspiring! Thank you for the tip on the oval dies for a saucer and using a blending marker for the shadowing, it really looks effective, and it is something I felt was missing from this set. Using other dies for decorating the cups was another great tip.
Great idea to use the oval punch to create saucers for your tea cups. The blue/white tea cups very much reminds my of my Oma’s Delftware from her china cabinet.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! Your card is fabulous! I love the mix of blue and white with the neutrals background. An Absolutely gorgeous card!
This is so lovely, Cathy … a really special card for your Mum. We’ve used the same colour combo, but how different do our creations look?! I adore the saucers you’ve created, and the way you decorated each tea cup … oh, and the envelope is just beautiful. Nice job!
Amazing card Cathy, I love your colour combo and the use of the saucers with your teacups is delightful, great idea.
What a beautiful card Cathy. I’m just loving the blue and white teacups against the neutral gray mat and genius to use the oval punch/die for the saucers.
Cathy this is probably the best card I have seen made with the Tea Boutique bundle. I love your saucers and it was a genius idea to use the ‘slash’ from the alphabet set to create your capital letter.
