Basic Gray Stamped With Love Card

Basic Gray Stamped With Love Card

Welcome to week eleven of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we are showcasing Basic Gray, which is a colour I rarely use, so it was a bit of a challenge! The darker gray is a good colour for natural elements such as stone or animal fur/hide or for metallic objects.

I settled on making a dark gray metal postbox as I wanted to see if I could successfully combine the little envelope stamp from the “Just My Type” stamp set with the “Stamped With Love” stamp set.

To create a border that reveals the Basic Gray card stock card base underneath I’ve stamped a vertical row of the “Just My Type” envelopes in Basic Gray and then fussy cut the right hand edge of the envelopes using paper snips.

The postal box was stamped in Basic Gray onto both Basic Gray cardstock and Basic White cardstock. The Basic Gray cardstock postal box is fussy cut and adhered to the front of the card, with a white envelope fussy cut out from the Basic White cardstock postal box.

Although I’ve deliberately kept this card very monochrome to showcase Basic Gray, I couldn’t resist using the heart stamp to add a tiny pop of Poppy Parade to the card.

I’ve customised all the sentiments on my card by masking part of them off with washi tape and removing the washi tape after inking the stamp but before stamping.

The Basic Gray Stampin’ Write Marker was used to add an ellipsis after the sentiment on the front of the card, another way to further personalise sentiments.

Inside the card I’ve personalised and mixed together two more of the sentiments from “Stamped With Love” to perfectly fit inside the larger envelope stamp.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Kate Morgan – I can’t wait to see what Kate has made this week!

Balmy Blue Nested Friends Bird Card

Balmy Blue Nested Friends Bird Card

Welcome to week ten of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we are showcasing Balmy Blue, which is a really lovely soft blue. My card is a CASE (copy and selectively edit) of these gorgeous Nested Friends cards, created by an amazing Dutch Stampin’ Up! Artisan design design team member, Berdien Weideveld.

Many of the products Berdien used on these cards have now retired, so I’ve merged the layouts of both the cards, switched the layout from vertical to horizontal and used current products for my Nested Friends card.

Old Olive and Early Espresso cardstock replaces retired colours Pear Pizzazz and Soft Suede. Flower dies from Around the Bend dies replace Berdien’s fussy cut flowers and my Balmy Blue DSP is from the current Subtles DSP 6×6 assortment pack.

Instead of the now retired frond and branch dies Berdien used, I’ve used the nest and leaf dies included in the Nested Friends dies, using my paper snips to chop up the nest to make branches.

As the brick embossing folder has also retired, I instead used the crosshatch embossing folder from the online exclusive Basics 3D Embossing Folders pack.

At the centre of the flowers I’ve popped a few of the brown Neutrals Adhesive-Backed Sequins for a touch of sparkle.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Andrea Sargent – I can’t wait to see what Andrea has made this week!

Les Shoppes Pecan Pie Birthday Card

Les Shoppes Pecan Pie Birthday Card

Welcome to week nine of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we are showcasing another new core colour, Pecan Pie. It’s a soft mid brown, very similar to the recently retired Soft Suede.

As the Designer Series Paper sale sends this Friday night I’ve used one of the DSPs on sale, the Les Shoppes DSP.

The Les Shoppes 12 x 12 DSP is part of the Les Shoppes Suite Collection, which also includes the Let’s Go Shopping stamp set, the Let’s Go Shopping dies and the Loose silver sequins.

My card mainly uses the Les Shoppes DSP, which is super easy to fussy cut. There are so many cute little shops you can fussy cut out of this DSP, but having worked in publishing all my working life I just couldn’t go past the little book shop!

The Balmy Blue background layer helps give the illusion of depth to the scene and using dimensionals to adhere some of the fussy cut pot plants adds another dimension to the foreground of the scene.

You can mix and match parts of the buildings too. I wanted an awning for the bookshop and so I fussy cut the awning from the boulangerie building and adhered it with dimensionals above the roof of the bookshop building.

The only die cut elements were the lampposts and the garden bench, cut from Pecan Pie card stock, as well as the books sign.

I love all of the tiny details in this DSP – it gives the card maximum visual interest without a lot of stamping and colouring in!

The inside of the card was the perfect place to use some pieces from the edge of the DSP.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Di Furniss – I can’t wait to see what Di has made this week!

Lemon Lolly Sweet Citrus Card

Lemon Lolly Sweet Citrus Card

Welcome to week eight of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

Lemon Lolly is a soft and pale yellow that’s in the Subtles family, sitting somewhere in between Daffodil Delight and Very Vanilla.

I just had to use the Sweet Citrus bundle for my Lemon Lolly card this week. The Sweet Citrus bundle is a must have if you love dimension on cards because it contains a hybrid embossing folder (embossing folder and matching die) that can be used to emboss, die cut or do both at the same time!

The gorgeous striped Lemon Lolly DSP on the front of the card is from the Bright & Beautiful 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper, one of the DSPs on sale for the month of June.

All the layers are die cut using the Deckled Rectangle Dies, including the sentiment. There wasn’t a long narrow die that fit the sentiment, however using a larger die and die cutting it twice, the die can be made to fit the sentiment.

The lemons are stamped in Lemon Lolly, lemon rinds in Daffodil Delight, leaves in Parakeet Party and lemon blossoms in Lemon Lolly.

I wasn’t sure which ribbon to use as an embellishment. This is the new 3/8″ (1 cm) Lemon Lolly ribbon from the Sheer Ribbon Combo Pack ribbon, cut in half lengthways.

Or this is a bow of the new Lemon Lime Twist ribbon from the Ribbon Duo Combo Pack. Which do you prefer?

These Pastel Adhesive-Backed Sequins add just the right touch of bling. This week I’ve used the gold sequins, however there is also a soft blue and a light pink in the pack.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Kate Morgan – I can’t wait to see what Kate has made this week!

Bubble Bath Delightfully Eclectic Paper Quilt Cards

Bubble Bath Delightfully Eclectic Paper Quilt Cards

Welcome to week seven of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

Bubble Bath is a gorgeous light pink that’s in the Subtles family, sitting somewhere in between Fresh Freesia and Moody Mauve.

My three Bubble Bath cards are all paper quilt cards that feature the Delightfully Eclectic DSP, one of the Designer Series Papers on sale at 15% off for the entire month of June (the entire list of papers on sale is listed here).

By only using four of these DSP designs, I’ve narrowed my colour pallette to Bubble Bath, Misty Moonlight, Garden Green and Basic White – with just a tiny touch of Night of Navy, Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze in the selected DSP patterns.

If you’ve never you ever made a paper quilt card before it’s such a fun technique for using DSP. I’ve created three different paper quilt cards this week, however there are as many ways to make this style of card as there are ways to make quilts!

This “Thinking of you” card is a cathedral windows card, named after the cathedral windows style of quilts it looks like. It has a lot of dimension as you can see more clearly in this side-on photo.

I’ve used the 1 3/4″ circle punch (you can also use dies) to cut Basic White cardstock circles as I wanted the effect of the white edges against the Misty Moonlight layer.

Insert squares of DSP inside the circles and use your fingers and your bone folder to fold the edges of the circle around the squares of DSP, creating the square cathedral window shape.

The colour of these pink Pastel Adhesive-Backed Sequins are actually listed on the packet as Petal Pink, but I think they match Bubble Bath perfectly.

My “Happy Birthday” card uses the the Inked & Tiled Punch Pack. These punches are designed to slot into each other so they are ideal for making a paper quilt.

No folding or measuring required for this paper quilt! Simply arrange the punched out pieces into your preferred quilt design, glue them onto a layer of Basic White cardstock and adhere your quilt to your card base.

The “Hello” card uses dies from the Patchwork Pieces dies, the Stylish Shapes dies and the Radiating Stitches dies. Seriously, how many different dies can I use on the one card, LOL!

Die cut four different DSP patterns using the Patchwork Pieces die and then arrange them in a symmetrical design, gluing alternating DSP pieces onto a cardstock layer.

The Misty Moonlight base layer and the Misty Moonlight circle layer under the sentiment are die cut with the Radiating Stitched dies – an online only product. The Hello sentiment is die cut using the smallest circle from the Stylish Shapes dies.

All three cards use sentiments from the “Go To Greetings” stamp set, stamped in Misty Moonlight. I thought the soft feminine script of these sentiments really suited the colour pallette and DSP patterns on my quilt cards.

Azure Afternoon On the Ocean Birthday Card

Azure Afternoon On the Ocean Birthday Card

Welcome to week six of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we are showcasing a brand new colour in the Brights family: Azure Afternoon. Azure Afternoon is gorgeous blue that sits somewhere between Tahitian Tide and the recently retired Pacific Point, the perfect colour for both a summer’s sky or the ocean.

Today’s card uses the the On the Ocean stamp set and the coordinating On the Ocean dies as well as the Fresh as a Daisy DSP, which is one of the selected Designer Series Papers on sale at 15% off for the entire month of June (you can see the entire list of papers on sale here).

My colour scheme for my card was inspired by this DSP.

There’s a couple of wave dies in the On the Ocean dies – I’ve used the border wave die to cut Basic White cardstock waves and then layer up an ocean.

Waves are given dimension and colour by alternating between plain white die cut layers (for the foam) and waves coloured with Azure Afternoon, using one of the small blending brushes to blend the colour from the ink pad to the card stock.

The top background sky layer is from this pattern sheet in the Fresh as a Daisy DSP (bottom left) as are the sails on the boat (top middle stripes).

For the background sky I’ve stamped Early Espresso seagulls from the On the Ocean Stamp set directly onto the background DSP. The “happy birthday” sentiment is also from the On the Ocean Stamp set, stamped onto a die cut cloud.

I’d originally die cut the sail from Crumb Cake card stock, however as soon as I swapped the crumb cake sail out for a sail die cut from the Wild Wheat striped DSP the whole card really came together as the sails reflected the background layer.

Wild Wheat Beautiful Balloon Side Stepper Card

Wild Wheat Beautiful Balloon Side Stepper Card

Welcome to week five of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we are showcasing our fifth 2023-25 In Colour: Wild Wheat. Wild Wheat is a warm mustard gold colour, similar to a previous In Color, Delightful Dijon.

Here’s how Wild Wheat compares to the other current Stampin’ Up! yellows and browns.

Although I love shades of mustard when used as an accent colour for homewares, leather shoes and bags, I must admit I found Wild Wheat challenging at first to craft with … especially as I’m a 7 hour drive away from home this week and I packed the wrong supplies!!!!

Luckily, I’d packed some of my 2023–2025 In Color 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper as well as my specialty paper share, which included Wild Wheat in the 2023–2025 In Color 12″ x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Luster Specialty Paper and the “oh so fabulous” More Dazzle 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Specialty Paper.

I’d also packed the Beautiful Balloons bundle to make a card for next week’s blog, but decided to use it this week instead to make a side stepper/side step card.

Making a side step card is quite simple – there is only one single cut and a few folds. One sheet of A4 paper is enough for 2 card bases, each measuring 14.8cm x 21cm each.

Use your paper trimmer to cut your A4 card stock in half and then cut and score as per the template below – the fold on the left hand side of the card is at 10.5cm.

Side Step Card Template

  1. Measure in 8cm from the left on the 14.8cm side of your card base and draw a pencil line from top to bottom.
  2. Along this line measure down 4.5cm from the top of the card stock and measure up 2.5cm from the base of the card stock. The solid line in between these 2 measurements is your only cutting line for this card- I’ve marked this as a solid black line in my template.
  3. Cut along this solid line, being very carful not to cut above or below this line.
  4. All the other dotted lines are fold lines – measure and score these with your paper trimmer.
  5. Once you’ve scored these lines, rub out the pencil mark along your cut line and fold the score lines so the side folds of your card look like this.

I’ve paired Wild Wheat with black, white and gold as it really looks like a kind of fools gold, especially in the Luster Specialty Paper. Here’s what the side step card looks like when laid flat.

Here’s what it looks like correctly folded and in an envelope.

Here’s what it looks like from the right side when sitting up for display.

And from the left side.

Did you notice the frill on the bottom of the card? It’s a long die from the Beautiful Balloon dies that I used to die cut the More Dazzle specialty paper. I trimmed one end off to make a long frill.

The offcut side from the long fringe was used to decorate the inside of the card.

The front of the side step card was embellished with a bow of the Wild Wheat 2023–2025 In Color Jute Trim and Wild Wheat 2023–2025 In Color Dots on the largest balloon.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Christine Blain – I can’t wait to see what Christine has made this week!

Pebbled Path Wanted to Say Dies Birthday Card

Pebbled Path Wanted to Say Dies Birthday Card

Welcome to week four of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we are showcasing another brand new 2023-25 In Colour: Pebbled Path. Pebbled Path is a warm mid-tone gray, similar to a previous In Color, Tip Top Taupe.

Here’s how Pebbled Path compares to the other current Stampin’ Up! grays and browns. It really sits in between the grays and the browns.

I’ve paired Pebbled Path with Basic White and this stunning Champagne coloured More Dazzle 6″ x 6″ Specialty Paper.

This specialty paper adds so much “wow” factor to your cards – I can’t wait to use this for my Christmas cards too.

The only downsides of this incredibly sparkly specialty paper are that it is hard to photograph and it can also be tricky to die cut – you’ll need to run it back and forth in your cut’ n’ emboss machine a few extra times.

Apart from stamping the Rays of Light background stamp in Pebbled Path ink onto the Pebbled Path cardstock, there is actually no other stamping on this card.

The Wanted to Say Dies do all the hard work for you and they have a sentiment for most occasions as well as die cut decorations that include stars, hearts, a flower, a stem and leaf and a bow.

The Wanted to Say Dies also include a layer for all the sentiments so you can either use the sentiment with a layer behind it or on its own, as I’ve done here on the inside of my card.

TOP TIP for using these dies – adhesive sheets applied to the specialty paper and the cardstock BEFORE you die cut are a must for this type of card!

I’ve splattered some white craft ink with a water painter (I definitely need to practise my technique, LOL!) and added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels to embellish my card.

Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Vicki Boucher – I can’t wait to see what Vicki has made this week!

Moody Mauve Textured Floral Wreath Birthday Card

Moody Mauve Textured Floral Wreath Birthday Card

Welcome to week three of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!

This week we are showcasing another brand new 2023-25 In Colour: Moody Mauve. Moody Mauve is a warm, soft dusky pink with a slightly purple undertone, similar to a previous In Color, Rococo Rose.

Here’s how Moody Mauve compares to the current Stampin’ Up! pinks and purples.

As I’ve made a lot of fancy folds lately and I didn’t have much time this week to create my Moody Mauve card, I’ve made a very quick floral wreath birthday card using products from a beautiful new bundle called the Textured Floral bundle.

I’ve paired Moody Mauve with Bubble Bath, Crumb Cake, Old Olive and Mossy Meadow, stamping Moody Mauve and Old Olive both at full strength and stamped off once.

After stamping and die cutting different pieces I decided to arrange them into a wreath.

To create a wreath, stamp the sentiment first then arrange the foliage and flowers around the sentiment in a ring. A double row and a double bow of linen thread instantly transforms it into a hanging wreath.

The inside of the card is stamped with another sentiment from the Textured Florals stamp set.

As I was making my wreath card I realised the colour combination I’d used would also be perfect for another new stamp set – the Prized Plant stamp set – so I quickly made another card.

I’m not sure what plant this stamp is – maybe a Caladium? I just love the different colouring options this stamp set offers with its 3-step photopolymer stamping.

Both cards have been embellished using the Moody Mauve dots from the 2023-25 In Colour Dots.
