Week 21 – Highland Heather
I love Stampin’ Up!’s stunning tricolour purple ribbon so much I designed my card around it this week, creating a bunch of flowers tied with a double bow of this ribbon – its three stripes are Purple Posy, Highland Heather (our colour this week) and Gorgeous Grape.
The other colours included in my bunch of flowers are Soft Sea Foam, Mint Macaron and Smoky Slate. This is such a soft and feminine colour combination.
The Forever Fern bundle was just perfect for this project – its impossible to make a bad card with this stamp set and co-ordinating Forever Flourishing dies, and there are so many way you can use this bundle.
Because I wanted to create a double bow with the stripes in same direction on both sides of my bow I used a bow maker to carefully tie the double bow. If you don’t have a bow maker you can use a fork or even your fingers – there are heaps of free tutorials on Pinterest that will show you how to make a perfect bow of any size.
Stampin’ up!’s subtle embossing folder gives a lovely texture to the Whisper White card stock layer. The “hello” sentiment was stamped in Versamark ink before being heat embossed using white emboss power.
Because I had so many left over die cut pieces I decided to make a quick pop-up planter basket for the middle of my card. I traced around the smallest stitched rectangle to work out where to cut my pop-up mechanism and then simply used my paper snips to cut two side slits into a Whisper White insert.
Once I cut my two side slits I simply flipped out the pop-up mechanism (so it pops in the opposite direction to the card insert) and added a piece of Gorgeous Grape card stock embossed using the Brick & mortar Embossing Folder to create the planter box.
As well as attaching foliage pieces to the inside of the planter box pop-up section I also attached some to the inside of the Whisper White card base. Just a note of warning, when attaching die cut piece to your pop-up section just make sure they are positioned in a way that your card can close smoothly and they don’t stick out the sides when the card is closed.

The “to a friend that makes me smile” sentiment is the final touch for the inside of the pop-up card, stamped in Highland Heather.

Classic Christmas 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper
My first card is a simple folded card that uses one of the curvy dies to cut the card stock and the Classic Christmas 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper.
Here is it folded up.
Unfolded once.
And fully opened up.
Look at this beautiful Designer Series Paper and the detail in these Curvy Dies. I’ve used the Sahara Sand tree pattern DSP for this card because it matches the Curvy Tree Stamp – how cute is this line of trees!
I really love this DSP – it comes in Sahara Sand, Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce, 48 sheets of double-sided patterned paper; with 4 each of 12 designs.
For my next card I used the sprig die to cut out Sahara Sand and Whisper White card stock sprigs to make a wreath.
My little red robin was coloured in using Crumb Cake and Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ blends and the bow was coloured in with Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ blends before fussy cutting out with my paper snips. Holiday Rhinestone Jewels add a touch of bling.
Lastly, for the square card I also used the Gold Hoop embellishments and the sprig dies.
There’s just so many possibilities with this amazing suite!

Week 20 – Gray Granite
Gray Granite is very similar to Crumb Cake in that it’s an incredibly versatile neutral colour: not too light, not too dark and it looks really fabulous with any colour you’d like to pair it with. And although I usually pair gray with silver, Gray Granite is a brownish gray so I also love pairing it with gold.
My colour combination today uses only three colours: Gray Granite, Gold Foil and Whisper White.
One of the great things about having a mother and a best friend who both share your crafting passion is that we can craft together and borrow each other’s supplies! My mum lent me the the beautiful Dove of Hope bundle this week…and it was the perfect set to showcase Gray Granite.
This is a such a great bundle for quick and easy cards I ended up making three cards. Card one was inspired by this sheet of designer series paper from the Peony Garden DSP – this pack of DSP is on sale for the month of October.
A simple white dove created from three die cuts and a pre-cut gold wreath made this card child’s play. All I had to add was a the “Peace Joy Love” sentiment stamped in Gray Granite and a bow of Wonder of the Season Gold cord topped with a gold dot die.
I created the gold dot using the row of dots die in the Detailed Dove dies to die cut some scrap gold foil from the Forever Gold laser-cut paper.
My square card uses a Gray Granite card base to bring out the pretty detail in the Plush Poinsettia specialty paper – I love the texture of this flocked vellum.
After fussy cutting the word peace from the the “Peace Joy Love” sentiment I used more of the die cut gold dots to embellish the card. The sprig in the dove’s mouth has also been die cut from extra gold foil in the Forever Gold laser-cut paper.
I used the same die cuts as my first dove, but achieved a totally different look just by changing the way the wings sat on the dove’s body.
The final card was inspired by one the incredibly talented members of the Artisan Design team: Martin Stone. Although I’ve copied the basic layout of his card I’ve made this card my own by using different colours, different trim and embellishments and a different embossing folder for the background layer.
The dove is die cut but the “Peace” sentiment is fussy cut. This time instead of using the Wonder of the Season Gold cord for my bow I used the Forever Greenery Gold Trim.
All three cards have three different background layers — flocked vellum, embossed card stock and designer series paper — but their geometric patterns are very similar.

Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase. Tonight we’re sharing some ideas for using designer series paper because Stampin’ Up! have 15% off a select range of their stunning DSPs for the month of October. You can see the full list of papers on sale here.
To celebrate World Card Making day last Saturday I held a class where I shared two card techniques that really showcase designer series papers: a double z-fold Christmas card and a “Scrappy Strip technique” birthday card.
Both of these cards feature stunning designer series papers that can sometimes be overlooked because they are from Product Medleys, so they are not listed in the paper section of the Stampin’ up! website or the catalogues.
These designer series papers also come in refill packs, so you don’t have to purchase the entire product medley to get your hands on the DSP.

The double Z-fold card is a Christmas card and you could use any of the Christmas DSPs on sale to make this design too. For the front panel of the card you can use a sticker from the product medley or stamp a greeting or a different image – the possibilites are endless.
Here’s how it looks from the side.
And here’s my matching envelope – I simply stamped off the Christmas Tree stamp on the back flap of a C6 envelope.
My scrappy strip technique birthday card uses the stunning blues and whites and creams of the Boho Indigo Product Medley.
To make a scrappy strip technique card you simply cut a piece of Very Vanilla A4 card stock in half and score and fold to make the card base. Cut the other piece of card stock in half and trim 1/4 inch (5cm) off the top and side – this is your middle layer. For the top layer, trim 1/2 inch (10cm) off the top and side.
Trim strips of DSP at an angle before lining them up (alternating dark and light) and lining them up with approximately the same gap between strips. Adhere the strips, turn over so the strips are under the top Very Vanilla layer and trim the strips back to the edges of the top layer.
Once you’ve adhered all your layers, add some ribbon behind your sentiment.
I used the Envelope dies to add DSP to the outer flap of a C6 envelope. The Envelope dies come in four different sizes (to match the four different envelope sizes Stampin’ Up! sells) and you can either use them inside as an envelope liner or outside as a feature flap as I’ve done below.
This scrappy strip technique is the perfect way to use up your scraps of DSP.
I’m going to make both these cards again, this time using some of the lovely DSP on sale this month.

Week 19 – Granny Apple Green
Last weekend was world card making day and I celebrated by holding a free card making class at my place.
This beautiful bunch of flowers was given to me by my dear friend Nicole who came to my afternoon class. The Granny Apple Green colour of the leaves and stems proved to be the perfect inspiration for my Colour Creations Showcase project this week.
I love using my craft supplies to reproduce gorgeous bunches of flowers. For my card this week I used Granny Apple Green, Magenta Madness, Blushing Bride, Smoky Slate, Soft Sea Foam, Basic Black, Whisper White and Early Espresso.
To make my flannel flowers I used the smaller daisy stamp and Medium Daisy Punch. Smoky Slate was stamped off twice for the petals and Soft Sea Foam stamped off once for the centre of the flannel flowers.
The closest stamp set I found to reproduce the ranunculus was Prized Peony – the darkest pink flower is Magenta Madness stamped off once, with Blushing Bride for the paler pink flowers. The black flower centres are created using the fine tip of a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.
Granny Apple Green reproduced the leaves and the stems, with a piece of In Good Taste DSP set at an angle to reproduce the front hall table where my beautiful vase of flowers greet everyone who walks into the front door.
