Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase. Tonight we’re sharing some ideas for cards that only use five supplies or less – a challenge for many avid crafters.
Luckily we all agreed that paper trimmers, paper snips, acrylic blocks and adhesives were core supplies assumed to be already on hand, which meant we could chose five more supplies in addition to these basics.
Although technically you could argue that an all inclusive card kit could be counted as one supply I did feel that would be cheating for the purposes of this challenge, so after much deliberation I settled on the following five supplies:
Zoo Globe Stamp Set – this set is perfect for colouring and has both sentiments and images
Watercolour Pencils – an affordable and easy way to get a wide range of Stampin’ up! colours
Blender Pen – brings watercolours to life and not as wet or messy on the card stock as water painters
Memento Stamp Pad – versatile black stamp pad for images and sentiments
Whisper White card Stock – an essential and versatile basic for both making the card base and stamping the card layer
I had so much fun playing with the zoo globe stamp set I ended up making three cards to share with you several different techniques you can try even if you only have limited supplies.
TECHNIQUES 1 AND 2: CREATING YOUR OWN DSP AND BLENDING WATERCOLOUR PENCILS WITH BLENDER PENS
All three of my cards today begin with a piece of home made rainbow DSP. I created my rainbow DSP by simply using my watercolour pencils to scribble on my card stock in rainbow order. I could have also created a homemade patterned DSP by stamped images onto the card stock and either coloured them in or left it as black and white but this was much faster.
To blend the colours together I simply coloured over the top of my pencil marks with my blender pen – it’s amazing to watch the pencil lines smooth out with the blender pen. Once I’d finished I rubbed the nip of my blender pen onto some scrap paper until it ran clear. It doesn’t matter if your nib is stained – it’s now ready to use again with any colour.
The photo below shows my homemade DSP with the globe base stamp already stamped onto it, which leads to my next techniques….
TECHNIQUES 3 AND 4 : PAPER PIECING AND FUSSY CUTTING
Once you’ve created your own DSP you can use it in a variety of ways. For card one I’ve stamped the base of the globe onto it before fussy cutting this piece out with my paper snips.
The dome of the globe was stamped directly onto my card base but the balloons, elephant and base of the globe were all coloured in with watercolour pencils and then blended with the blender pen before being fussy cut out and adhered to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Leaving a white space in the middle of the balloons gives them a real dimension.
The “happy birthday” sentiment was stamped onto scrap piece of Whisper White card stock before being trimmed to size with the paper trimmer and adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
TECHNIQUES 5 AND 6: CREATING A BORDER WITH STAMPS AND THE BLENDER PEN DIRECT TO PENCIL COLOURING TECHNIQUE
For my second card I used a rainbow strip of my homemade DSP and the grass stamp to create a double border for the base of my card.
This time, when colouring my animals I first applied the nib of my marker to the tip of the pencil, lifting the colour off the pencil with my blender pen and then colouring the images with my blender pen.
You can also use your blender pen in this way to lift ink from the lid of your ink pad or ink from an acrylic block – it means your clear blender pen can be used to colour in any coloured pencil or ink that you have.
TECHNIQUE 7: USING HOMEMADE DSP AS BACKGROUND LAYER
I hadn’t originally intended to make a third card but the colours on my remaining section of homemade DSP reminded me of the Australian outback…and I hadn’t used the adorable kangaroo and joey stamp yet!
This time I glued both of the stamped, water coloured and fussy cut images directly onto my home made DSP and added dimension behind the DSP by using Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere it to the card base.

Simple cards made with few supplies can be really effective…especially if you have a few techniques and tricks up your sleeve that enable you to maximise whatever supplies you have on hand.

Week 24 – Mango Melody
When I saw this beautiful card on Pinterest – created by Tammy Wilson, a USA Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and member of the Artisan Design Team – it instantly evoked a very special memory for me.
In 2018 I visited New York, Indianapolis and Hawaii with my husband and two sons – it was our first big holiday as a family and the first time all four of us went overseas together. We went to celebrate my 50th birthday and more importantly to finally meet and thank my amazing bone marrow donor Ben and his wife Christy.
This incredible trip was one of the happiest times of my life and now with COVID I’m forever grateful we were able to enjoy this special trip together.
Tammy’s card immediately reminded me of the stunning trees in Central Park, New York and Indianapolis – the soft colour of the sky and the shape of the tree branches is totally different to we have here in Australia. Here’s a few photos I took of this soft winter sky with the silhouettes of the winter trees.
My first card today is a much simpler version of Tammy’s card and it uses slightly different colours. I love these shades of orange and brown together: Mango Melody, Cinnamon Cider, Early Espresso and Whisper White.
To create my background I’ve used a really fun watercolour technique that creates a different look every time.
Spritz a sheet of Fluid 100 Watercolour paper several times with your Stampin’ Spritzer
Tap an acrylic block onto Mango Melody ink pad to cover the surface of the block with the ink
Use your widest water painter to lift Mango Melody ink off your acrylic block and paint it onto the Fluid 100 Watercolour paper
Tap another acrylic block, this time onto your Cinnamon Cider ink pad and then use your widest water painter to paint some Cinnamon Cider ink onto your Fluid 100 Watercolour paper
Spritz the paper again with your Stampin’ Spritzer (watch the inks merge together at the edges) and then dry the ink using your heat tool
Stamp the largest tree stamp in Early Espresso ink, and then stamp the “shadows” stamp in Early Espresso ink underneath the group of trees
Flick the thick end of your Early Espresso Stampin’ Write marker with your finger to create splatters all over the card
My sentiment is also from the Winter Woods stamp set – I used my Early Espresso marker to colour just the “thinking of you” section of the sentiment before stamping and then die cutting the sentiment out with stitched rectangle die to match the larger stitched rectangle die I used to cut the water coloured layer.
I couldn’t resist making one more card with this stamp set because it also is the perfect stamp set for the acrylic block stamping technique. If you’ve never tried this technique please give it a go – it is so easy and so effective.
You simply ink up an acrylic block (I used size C) by tapping it onto your stamp pad, then spritz it with your Stampin’ Spritzer and stamp the acrylic block directly to your paper. This time I used Whisper White but this technique looks great on watercolour paper too.
Once you’ve dried your ink background, stamp the tree stamp over the top in Early Espresso ink. I wanted a small sentiment to fit in the gap between the two tree branches on the far right and the “Hello” sentiment from the Well Said stamp set was the perfect fit.
Both my cards were finished off with a simple bow of linen thread.

Today I’m sharing with you a sneak peek of the Dandy Garden Suite which will be in the upcoming January-June 2021 Mini Catalogue. The Dandy Garden suite is a “mega suite” with so many fantastic co-ordinating products.
Today I’m using just some of the products from this suite: 6×6 DSP paper, a Dragonfly stamp set, Dragonfly punch, Mossy Meadow braided linen trim and the cutest mini ladybug embellishments!
Some of this new collection of products were been made available to Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators who registered for Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage @ Home event which I’ve just attended this past weekend. We all made three simple but stunning cards with this suite.
The Dragonflies on these cards were punched out with the Dragonfly Punch. The smallest dragonfly was punched out of Whisper White card stock and largest Dragonfly is punched from the Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper.
This card shows more patterns from the beautiful Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper and the texture of the Mossy Meadow Braided linen trim.
If you look closely at the Designer Series Paper with the dragonfly pattern you’ll see that the Blackberry Bliss dragonfly exactly matches the size of the smaller dragonfly punch so you can actually use your punch to punch out both sizes of dragonfly from the DSP if you don’t feel like stamping and colouring them yourself.
I really like the simplicity of this final card.
Did you notice the shadow under the dragonfly’s wings?
This stamp can either be used either as a shadow or to add colour to the dragonfly’s wings.

Week 23 – Magenta Madness
This week I’ve drawn inspiration from one of Stampin Up!’s retired products: the Everything is Rosy product medley which featured a stunning colour combination of Night of Navy, Melon Mambo, Rose Gold and Whisper White.
Because Night of Navy and Melon Mambo looked so beautiful together in the Everything is Rosy product medley I thought I’d use a similar colour combination for my Magenta Madness card, using a selection of 2019-21 and 2020-22 In Colours.
Rococo Rose is a lot “muddier” than Magenta Madness but because I used my light Rococo Rose Stampin’ Blend I think I managed to get away with using these very different tones of pink together on my cards today.
All three cards feature the Bloom & Grow Stamp Set, the co-ordinating Budding Blooms dies and the 2020–2022 In colour 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper.
I needed to make some thank you cards for customers so for all three cards I used the lovely thank you sentiment from Bloom & Grow. The floral images and sentiments were stamped in Memento before colouring with Stampin’ Blends.
This first card doesn’t include Rococo Rose – the flowers are coloured using the light and dark Magenta Madness Stampin’ Blends.
My next card includes Rococo Rose and like the other two cards I’ve coloured Rhinestone Jewels with my dark Magenta Madness Stampin’ Blend to customise my embellishments.
The lovely scalloped edge on the Whisper White card stock layer is easy to achieve with the Budding Blooms dies – just use a pencil to mark the middle and the sides of the card stock before you die cut to ensure the angle on both sides matches.
My final card was designed to use up the off cuts of the designer series paper from the previous two cards and as so often happens I end up liking the “use it all up card” the best!

Week 22 – Just Jade
Do you love making your own DSP? I certainly do and my card this week features a very simple DSP stamped in two of the new 2020-22 In Colors: Just Jade and Cinnamon Cider.
My card design and layout was inspired by a non Stampin’ Up! card I saw on Pinterest – I love how just two simple cuts with my Paper Trimmer bring a whole new level of interest to my card. This is a great layout to use up your DSP or you can make your own like I have done today, using the Peaceful Boughs stamp set.
After chopping my DSP I spaced it evenly onto a layer of Whisper White card stock and used white adhesive foam strips to adhere the DSP to the Whisper White card stock layer. I used one of the layering ovals dies to cut a window for the sentiment, which I stamped in Memento Ink.
To ensure the Gold Cord wrapped nicely around my card I added an extra layer of Whisper White on top of the card base, wrapped the cord around this layer and secured my Gold Cord to the back of this layer with sticky tape. Where the bow sits at the front of the card I used a mini glue dot to hold it in place. I could have also used the Just Jade ribbon, Linen thread or the Copper Grosgrain Ribbon from the Basket Weave and Metallic Ribbon Combo Pack.

Week 21 – Highland Heather
I love Stampin’ Up!’s stunning tricolour purple ribbon so much I designed my card around it this week, creating a bunch of flowers tied with a double bow of this ribbon – its three stripes are Purple Posy, Highland Heather (our colour this week) and Gorgeous Grape.
The other colours included in my bunch of flowers are Soft Sea Foam, Mint Macaron and Smoky Slate. This is such a soft and feminine colour combination.
The Forever Fern bundle was just perfect for this project – its impossible to make a bad card with this stamp set and co-ordinating Forever Flourishing dies, and there are so many way you can use this bundle.
Because I wanted to create a double bow with the stripes in same direction on both sides of my bow I used a bow maker to carefully tie the double bow. If you don’t have a bow maker you can use a fork or even your fingers – there are heaps of free tutorials on Pinterest that will show you how to make a perfect bow of any size.
Stampin’ up!’s subtle embossing folder gives a lovely texture to the Whisper White card stock layer. The “hello” sentiment was stamped in Versamark ink before being heat embossed using white emboss power.
Because I had so many left over die cut pieces I decided to make a quick pop-up planter basket for the middle of my card. I traced around the smallest stitched rectangle to work out where to cut my pop-up mechanism and then simply used my paper snips to cut two side slits into a Whisper White insert.
Once I cut my two side slits I simply flipped out the pop-up mechanism (so it pops in the opposite direction to the card insert) and added a piece of Gorgeous Grape card stock embossed using the Brick & mortar Embossing Folder to create the planter box.
As well as attaching foliage pieces to the inside of the planter box pop-up section I also attached some to the inside of the Whisper White card base. Just a note of warning, when attaching die cut piece to your pop-up section just make sure they are positioned in a way that your card can close smoothly and they don’t stick out the sides when the card is closed.

The “to a friend that makes me smile” sentiment is the final touch for the inside of the pop-up card, stamped in Highland Heather.

My first card is a simple folded card that uses one of the curvy dies to cut the card stock and the Classic Christmas 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper.
Here is it folded up.

And fully opened up.
Look at this beautiful Designer Series Paper and the detail in these Curvy Dies. I’ve used the Sahara Sand tree pattern DSP for this card because it matches the Curvy Tree Stamp – how cute is this line of trees!
I really love this DSP – it comes in Sahara Sand, Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce, 48 sheets of double-sided patterned paper; with 4 each of 12 designs.
For my next card I used the sprig die to cut out Sahara Sand and Whisper White card stock sprigs to make a wreath.
My little red robin was coloured in using Crumb Cake and Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ blends and the bow was coloured in with Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ blends before fussy cutting out with my paper snips. Holiday Rhinestone Jewels add a touch of bling.
Lastly, for the square card I also used the Gold Hoop embellishments and the sprig dies.
There’s just so many possibilities with this amazing suite!

Week 20 – Gray Granite
Gray Granite is very similar to Crumb Cake in that it’s an incredibly versatile neutral colour: not too light, not too dark and it looks really fabulous with any colour you’d like to pair it with. And although I usually pair gray with silver, Gray Granite is a brownish gray so I also love pairing it with gold.
My colour combination today uses only three colours: Gray Granite, Gold Foil and Whisper White.
One of the great things about having a mother and a best friend who both share your crafting passion is that we can craft together and borrow each other’s supplies! My mum lent me the the beautiful Dove of Hope bundle this week…and it was the perfect set to showcase Gray Granite.
This is a such a great bundle for quick and easy cards I ended up making three cards. Card one was inspired by this sheet of designer series paper from the Peony Garden DSP – this pack of DSP is on sale for the month of October.
A simple white dove created from three die cuts and a pre-cut gold wreath made this card child’s play. All I had to add was a the “Peace Joy Love” sentiment stamped in Gray Granite and a bow of Wonder of the Season Gold cord topped with a gold dot die.
I created the gold dot using the row of dots die in the Detailed Dove dies to die cut some scrap gold foil from the Forever Gold laser-cut paper.
My square card uses a Gray Granite card base to bring out the pretty detail in the Plush Poinsettia specialty paper – I love the texture of this flocked vellum.
After fussy cutting the word peace from the the “Peace Joy Love” sentiment I used more of the die cut gold dots to embellish the card. The sprig in the dove’s mouth has also been die cut from extra gold foil in the Forever Gold laser-cut paper.
I used the same die cuts as my first dove, but achieved a totally different look just by changing the way the wings sat on the dove’s body.
The final card was inspired by one the incredibly talented members of the Artisan Design team: Martin Stone. Although I’ve copied the basic layout of his card I’ve made this card my own by using different colours, different trim and embellishments and a different embossing folder for the background layer.
The dove is die cut but the “Peace” sentiment is fussy cut. This time instead of using the Wonder of the Season Gold cord for my bow I used the Forever Greenery Gold Trim.
All three cards have three different background layers — flocked vellum, embossed card stock and designer series paper — but their geometric patterns are very similar.

Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase. Tonight we’re sharing some ideas for using designer series paper because Stampin’ Up! have 15% off a select range of their stunning DSPs for the month of October. You can see the full list of papers on sale here.
To celebrate World Card Making day last Saturday I held a class where I shared two card techniques that really showcase designer series papers: a double z-fold Christmas card and a “Scrappy Strip technique” birthday card.
Both of these cards feature stunning designer series papers that can sometimes be overlooked because they are from Product Medleys, so they are not listed in the paper section of the Stampin’ up! website or the catalogues.
These designer series papers also come in refill packs, so you don’t have to purchase the entire product medley to get your hands on the DSP.
Most Wonderful Time
Boho Indigo
The double Z-fold card is a Christmas card and you could use any of the Christmas DSPs on sale to make this design too. For the front panel of the card you can use a sticker from the product medley or stamp a greeting or a different image – the possibilites are endless.
Here’s how it looks from the side.
And here’s my matching envelope – I simply stamped off the Christmas Tree stamp on the back flap of a C6 envelope.
My scrappy strip technique birthday card uses the stunning blues and whites and creams of the Boho Indigo Product Medley.
To make a scrappy strip technique card you simply cut a piece of Very Vanilla A4 card stock in half and score and fold to make the card base. Cut the other piece of card stock in half and trim 1/4 inch (5cm) off the top and side – this is your middle layer. For the top layer, trim 1/2 inch (10cm) off the top and side.
Trim strips of DSP at an angle before lining them up (alternating dark and light) and lining them up with approximately the same gap between strips. Adhere the strips, turn over so the strips are under the top Very Vanilla layer and trim the strips back to the edges of the top layer.
Once you’ve adhered all your layers, add some ribbon behind your sentiment.
I used the Envelope dies to add DSP to the outer flap of a C6 envelope. The Envelope dies come in four different sizes (to match the four different envelope sizes Stampin’ Up! sells) and you can either use them inside as an envelope liner or outside as a feature flap as I’ve done below.
This scrappy strip technique is the perfect way to use up your scraps of DSP.
I’m going to make both these cards again, this time using some of the lovely DSP on sale this month.

Week 19 – Granny Apple Green
Last weekend was world card making day and I celebrated by holding a free card making class at my place.
This beautiful bunch of flowers was given to me by my dear friend Nicole who came to my afternoon class. The Granny Apple Green colour of the leaves and stems proved to be the perfect inspiration for my Colour Creations Showcase project this week.
I love using my craft supplies to reproduce gorgeous bunches of flowers. For my card this week I used Granny Apple Green, Magenta Madness, Blushing Bride, Smoky Slate, Soft Sea Foam, Basic Black, Whisper White and Early Espresso.
To make my flannel flowers I used the smaller daisy stamp and Medium Daisy Punch. Smoky Slate was stamped off twice for the petals and Soft Sea Foam stamped off once for the centre of the flannel flowers.
The closest stamp set I found to reproduce the ranunculus was Prized Peony – the darkest pink flower is Magenta Madness stamped off once, with Blushing Bride for the paler pink flowers. The black flower centres are created using the fine tip of a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.
Granny Apple Green reproduced the leaves and the stems, with a piece of In Good Taste DSP set at an angle to reproduce the front hall table where my beautiful vase of flowers greet everyone who walks into the front door.
