Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 8 Calypso Coral

Welcome to week eight of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 8 – Calypso Coral

Calypso Coral is in the subtles family but as the brightest of the subtles it really holds its own when combined with any of the brights, the regals or the neutrals – Calypso Coral really is a versatile colour. So when I saw a card created by Maria Cowans (a Stampin’ Up! demo located in the UK) I decided to create a card like hers, inspired by the Stampin’ Up! logo and using the same stunning colour combination.

Maria’s beautiful card is pictured below beside the Stampin’ Up! folder that inspired her design.

Calypso Coral looks incredible when paired with these other vibrant colours: Night of Navy, Old Olive, Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry and Whisper White.

Maria used the brand new “All Things Fabulous” bundle to recreate the Stampin’ Up! floral design. This is a fabulous bundle if you enjoy two step stamping – it reminds me of “Jar of Love” which is one of my all time favourite Stampin’ Up! stamp sets.

Would you believe I had just ordered the “All Things Fabulous” bundle but it hadn’t arrived yet? So I decided to make a quite different card, one that uses the same colours in the Stampin’ Up! folder, but made with the floral stamps in the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set instead.

This card was very quick and easy to make. I stamped the large magnolia image and two of the smaller buds onto Watercolour paper using Black StazOn ink.

The Good Morning Magnolia Stamp is a double stamp set and it has co-ordinating Magnolia Memory dies which I used to cut out my flowers.

I used my new Water Painters to colour in my magnolias with Night of Navy, the buds with Calypso Coral, the leaves with Old Olive and the centre of the main flower with Crushed Curry.

Water colouring with ink pads is so easy to do. You simply tap an acrylic block onto the surface of your ink pad to pick up the colour and then lift the ink off your block with your water painters.

Once my water coloured flowers were dry I cut the flowers away from the leaves with my paper snips and trimmed closer to the stamp outline before rearranged the elements onto a Whisper White panel. I adhered this to a Night of Navy card base, which is simply a sheet of A4 card stock cut in half and then folded in half.

The “Thanks” sentiment is stamped in Night of Navy and comes from the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set as well.

As soon as I had finished this card my “All Things Fabulous” bundle arrived in the post! So I decided to make a second card, this time more closely CASED on Maria’s one.

I used the “Wishing you all things fabulous” sentiment from the All Things Fabulous stamp set – I really love sentiments that have two different fonts on them, like this one.

This was such a quick card to make – it took me less than 5 minutes and the design evolved as I went. You really can’t go wrong with a floral stamp set like this.

For several of the Night of Navy and Calypso Coral flowers I stamped off the ink once before stamping the larger part of the flower and then stamped the ink at full strength for the second stamp that forms the middle of the flower.

I’m not sure which card I prefer. But I do think that this Calypso Coral colour combination really works well whether you use it for water colouring or for two set stamping and stamping off.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Calypso Coral today. Click on the links below to see what they’ve made.

Heart of Christmas: July

Heart of Christmas: July

Welcome to the Heart of Christmas 2020 where the Art with Heart team share their Christmas inspiration with you on the third Monday of each month.

Today I’m sharing with you a card that features some exciting new products from the upcoming Stampin’ Up! August – December mini catalogue. These products will be able to be purchased from August 4th 2020.

The Coming Home Bundle is part of the Trimming the Town Suite, perfect for Christmas Cards, Welcome to Your New Home Cards, male cards, teenage cards…and even congratulations on getting your licence/buying your first car cards with that adorable little car and its matching die cut. Here’s what you get in this bundle.

For my card today I’ve just used the Home Together dies, along with the gorgeous “Lots of love at Christmas” stamp from the Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set.

I thought this sentiment really suited the card design for two reasons: the curvy shape of the sentiment mirrors the curves of the long horizontal die cuts and the “love at Christmas” references the little Night of Navy house with its silver heart.

I love silver with Night of Navy but Stampin’ Up! doesn’t have a narrow silver ribbon in this current catalogue so I had to get creative! To make my ribbon I cut a narrow strip of silver foil and used the bow die from the “Wreath Builder” dies to cut a bow from silver foil.

The White dot in the centre of my bow is a new embellishment from the Trimming the Town suite – All the Trimmings Embellishments.

Do you recognise the tiny stars, snowflakes and silver circles that embellish my card? They are the Snowflakes Sequins embellishments from last year’s August – December mini and they we be coming back from August 4 in this year’s catalogue too.

My colour combination for this card is very simple but timeless and a real favourite of mine. You can never go wrong with Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, Whisper White and Silver foil.

The lovely Judy May is hosting our Heart of Christmas showcase this year. To see the other Christmas creations go back to Judy’s post.

Art With Heart Creative Showcase: Colouring Techniques

Art With Heart Creative Showcase: Colouring Techniques

Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase.

This month the Art With Heart Team are featuring projects using different colouring techniques. The Stampin’ Up! range contains an enormous bevy of functional and effective colouring tools that include:

  • Stampin’ Blends (alcohol markers)
  • Stampin’ Write Markers (dual-tipped markers)
  • Stampin’ Pads (water based dye ink)
  • Stampin’ Ink Refills (dye based ink)
  • Uninked Stampin’ Spots (felt Stampin’ Spots for use with Ink Refills)
  • Watercolour Pencils
  • Water Painters
  • Stampin’ Chalk Marker (permanent white chalk-like ink)
  • Sponges, daubers, sponge rollers and blender pens

With so many tools and over 50 colours to chose from I actually decided to do something different today and show you three different ways of colouring in white onto coloured card stock. These techniques work for any coloured card stock, but I’ve decided to use a favourite colour combination of mine: Whisper White and Crumb Cake.

All three cards that use the stunning Beautiful Moments stamp set – this is a stamp set that makes anybody look like an artist!

For all three cards I began by stamping and heat embossing my image and sentiment. To achieve a black embossed image I inked up my stamp firstly with Versamark ink and then Memento before stamping. I then covered the image in Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it the image with my heat tool. I repeated this process for the sentiments.

My “Thinking of you” card is coloured using a Stampin’ Chalk Marker, which is a permanent white chalk-like ink.

I simply coloured in the dress and the flowers, adding more chalk marker if there were any patchy bits as the marker dried.

The sentiment was punched out using the Lovely Label punch to add some dimension to the card.

For card two I used my white watercolour pencil from the Watercolour Pencils assortments one.

You’ll need to press quite hard and layer your colouring to achieve good coverage with the pencil but I love the soft chalkiness the pencil gives to the image.

The white colouring on my final card was achieved using Whisper White pigment ink refill and my smallest Water Painter.

I squeezed a small amount of the pigment ink onto a dish and used a wet nib of my water painter to slightly dilute the pigment ink before colouring in the girl’s dresses. You could also use white ink from your Whisper White stamp pad for this technique – simply tap a small acrylic block onto your stamp pad and then use your water painter to lift the ink off the acrylic block as you colour in.

This card took a bit longer to dry but the effect is well worth the wait.

All three cards were finished off with a double bow of linen thread and I used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to re-define any black lines that had been covered in white.

I hope my cards have inspired you to try white colouring on coloured card stock as it is such a beautiful and timeless technique you can achieve with a variety of different colouring tools.

The next Art With Heart Team Member to share their colouring technique with you is the very talented Vicki Boucher.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 7 Cajun Craze

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 7 Cajun Craze

Welcome to week seven of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 7 – Cajun Craze

Cajun Craze is in the Regal Family and to be honest it is probably the Stampin’ Up! colour that I use the least, so deciding what to create was a bit of a challenge today.

If I’m ever stumped with a colour combination I usually look to nature for inspiration but it was actually something man made in my home that provided the perfect inspiration for my card today.

These beautiful encaustic tiles are in my “powder room”, which is just a posh way of saying the loo off my laundry, LOL!

When we renovated I couldn’t afford to tile the entire wall so I simply tiled a strip of assorted patterns above the wash basin. It’s just a small detail but actually one of my favourite things in my house.

And what better bundle to create a card that reflects this tile pattern than the new Today’s Tiles stamp set and co-ordinating Field Tile dies.

I went a bit crazy and used a mix of colours that I would never usually put together but they were inspired by my tiles and I think they actually work together. Boy oh boy, am I stepping out of my comfort zone today!

Would you believe I’ve only used the one die to created all four cards? Because of the intricate design of this large tile die I was able to use a combination of layering different coloured card stock and the paper piecing technique to incorporate several colours into each card. Just don’t throw out the negative die pieces as you cut each colour – you’ll need these to all colours to your other coloured tile cards.

I used Cinnamon Cider as a base layer for each of my four cards and then used the large detailed die to cut out a tile in the other four colours: Cajun Craze, Pretty Peacock, Bumblebee and Balmy Blue.

Each card has a different coloured die cut layered over a square of another colour. I then paper pieced left over die cuts into the tile before layering my tile onto Cinnamon Cider, and layers of Whisper White and contrasting colours.

All four cards contain a different pattern that includes Cajun Craze, Pretty Peacock, Bumblebee, Cinnamon Cider and Balmy Blue.

And all the cards are finished off with either a Bumblebee or a Cinnamon Cider 2020-2022 In Color enamel dot in the centre of the tile..

It’s amazing how just one die cut four times can create so many different colour combinations when you mix up all the little die cut pieces! Do you have a favourite?

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Cajun Craze today. Click on the links below to see what they’ve made.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 6 Bumble Bee

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 6 Bumble Bee

Welcome to week six of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 6 – Bumblebee

Bumblebee is one of the brand new 2020-22 In Colors. It is available in a wide range of products including:

  • Bumblebee Classic Stampin’ Pad and ink refill,
  • 2020–2022 In Color Stampin’ Write marker,
  • 2020-22 In Color Designer Series 6×6 Paper,
  • World of Good Specialty DSP and Memories & More Pack,
  • Flowers for Every Season 6×6 DSP, Memories & More pack and Memories & More Cards and Envelopes,
  • Ornate Garden DSP,
  • Bumblebee 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon,
  • 2020–2022 In Color Ribbon,
  • 2020–2022 In Colour Enamel Dots
  • Any of the 2020-22 In Colors collections.

I was short of time to create this week so I needed to make some very simple cards that required no stamping, punching, die cutting or embossing …the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Card Pack and matching card bases and envelopes came to my rescue!

Memories & More Card Packs are so versatile – they can be used for both scrapbooking and card making. Here’s what you get in the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Card Pack.

I’ve only used Memories & More cards that feature Bumblebee for my cards tonight, but the patterns on the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Pack include all of the lovely 2020-2022 In Colors. They also co-ordinate with and have many of the same patterns as the Flowers for Every Season 6×6 DSP.

These first four floral cards each have a different sentiment which is cut from one of the small Memories & More cards and simply mounted onto a strip of Whisper White card stock. Each of the small Memories & More cards and layered onto a piece of Bumblebee card stock and adhered to a small Memories & More card.

I also made three cards using the larger Memories & More cards with some co-ordinating elements.

My sunflower card uses stickers from the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Pack. I love the ombre effect in the “celebrate” sticker and how beautifully the floral cluster stickers co-ordinate with the Memories & More base card.

My second card features a bow of the Bumblebee 2020-2022 In Color Ribbon attached to one of the new gold hoop embellishments. I mounted the Memories & More card onto some Just Jade card stock.

My base card is the Bumblebee card from the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Cards and Envelopes.

The final card simply needed a bow with a Bumblebee enamel dot. I could have used any of the 2020-2022 In Color ribbons but this sweet bow sticker from the Memories & More pack provided a quick and easy way to finish off the card.

The Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Pack and Memories & More Cards and Envelopes are just so beautiful. I love how they make no-stamping and no-fuss card making a breeze…in no time at all.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 5 Blushing Bride

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 5 Blushing Bride

Welcome to week five of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 5 -Blushing Bride

Blushing Bride is part of the Subtles collection of colours. It is available as a Classic Stampin’ Pad and ink refill, Stampin’ Write marker, Subtle Designer Series Paper and Gorgeous Posies Card Kit, or you can purchase it within any of the Subtles collections.

My card today is a sweet little birdhouse that features the Stampin’ Up! Birds & Branches Bundle. How cute are these little birds!

Blushing Bride looks amazing with any shade of brown so this is the colour combination I chose today.

I wanted to create a birdhouse very simply without using fussy templates so I decided to make a square card that folds at the top and then attach a roof to the top fold.

The new Triangle stitched dies made this super easy to do – I simply attached them to the top fold with Tear’n’tape after my card was completed.

Here’s a closer look at my sweet little birds. I stamped them in Sahara Sand and then Early Espresso – To create my birds with Two-Step Stampin’, I stamped the silhouette image in Sahara Sand and then stamped the detailed image in Early Espresso. I used my water painter to add a touch of Blushing Bride to their tummies.

The Forever Gold Laser-cut Specialty paper, Gold Metallic Trim and Gilded Gems in the middle of the Blushing Bride flowers are the final touch, with the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Blossoms in Bloom Stamp Set stamped in Early Espresso.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Blushing Bride today.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 4 Blackberry Bliss

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 4 Blackberry Bliss

Welcome to week four of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 4 -Blackberry Bliss

Blackberry Bliss is part of the Regals collection of colours. It is available as A4 Card stock, a Classic Stampin’ Pad and ink refill, Stampin Blends combo pack, Stampin’ Write marker, Regals 6×6 Designer Series Paper, Rainbow Glimmer paper and Gorgeous Posies Card Kit, or you can purchase it within any of the Regals collections.

I have to admit that Blackberry Bliss used to scare me! Don’t get me wrong, I always thought it was a beautiful colour but because it’s so very dark I hardly ever used it. But after water colouring with Blackberry Bliss I’m happy to say I will definitely be using this colour more often!

Here’s my colour combination for this week. I don’t usually work with this many colours but with floral images I’ve found that a variety of colours really helps to replicate the subtle mix of colours found in nature.

And here’s the gorgeous Prized Peony bundle that I used to create my card with its matching 3D flower.

Let’s take a closer look at the peony die set. It includes:

  • dies that cut out the stamped images from the Prized Peony stamp set,
  • a stunning scalloped border die,
  • five dies that layer together to make a 3D peony flower,
  • and another six dies that layer into three different leaves.

The 3D peony flower and leaf dies don’t come with assembly instructions but as I soon discovered if you simply line up the bottom of the 3D flower dies they layer together perfectly. You slot them together in the order I’ve shown in this photo from top to bottom, adhering at the base of the flower. The stamen is the final part of the flower to be added.

I cut enough pieces out for two flowers: one in Rich Razzleberry and one in Blackberry Bliss. I did this because when I mix these two colours you can more clearly see the definition of layers in the peony flower. The leaves were cut from Mossy Meadow and Old Olive card stock. Here’s a close up of the completed peony flower with leaves.

I used this flower to top a Whisper White Mini Pizza box that I filled with chocolates before wrapping it with some of the new Gray Granite 1/4″ (6.4 mm) Shimmer Ribbon (also from the Peony Garden suite). Can you see its subtle silver shimmer?

Gray Granite looks so lovely paired with Blackberry Bliss, so I also used it on my matching card. I embossed my Gray Granite card stock with the new Dainty Diamonds embossing folder and used the long scalloped die from the Peony Dies to trim the top and the bottom of my Gray Granite card stock.

You might think that I coloured my flowers using Rich Razzleberry but it’s actually Blackberry Bliss. After stamping the peony flowers in black Stazon ink onto watercolour paper I used the new water painters and my Blackberry Bliss ink pad to watercolour the flowers.

This “Distinktive” Prized Peony Stamp Set has a special texture that gives added depth and dimension in a single step, creating photo-realistic images that are ideal for water colouring. I water coloured the stamens with Crushed Curry and the leaves with a mixture of Mossy Meadow and Old Olive.

I love water colouring stamped images because it makes me feel like an artist. It also lets me tone down colours I find too intense to work with at full strength. These new Water Painters replace the Aqua Brushes and they really make a wide variety of water colour effects so easy to achieve.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the Art With Heart team have created with Blackberry Bliss today.

Art With Heart Creative Showcase: New Catalogue Products

Art With Heart Creative Showcase: New Catalogue Products

Welcome to the Monthly Art With Heart Creative Showcase.

This month the team are featuring projects using their favourite products from the new Stampin’ Up! 2020-21 Catalogue. The new catalogue is full of amazing new stamp sets, some bundled with dies or punches. The range of kits, papers and accessories complete the range of products you will see featured in this Showcase.

I don’t know about you, but choosing a favourite product is like choosing a favourite child. Impossible to do! However after much consideration I decided to make some cards using products from the stunning Forever Greenery Suite.

I love everything about this suite – the DSP, especially. But I think my absolute favourite part of this suite is the Gold 1/16 ” trim that comes with Vanilla Ribbon in the Forever Greenery Trim combo pack.

Tonight I made three different cards that all use the Forever Greenery Suite as well as some other new products.

My first card is a square card that actually features a different embossing folder – the Dainty Diamonds embossing folder from the Peony Garden Suite. Isn’t this embossing folder just stunning?

The circle is cut out with the largest of the layering circles and I used one of the stamps from the Forever Fern stamp set, stamped in Pretty Peacock, Pear Pizzaz and some Early Espresso.

The Forever Gold Laser-cut Specialty Paper adds an elegant touch of bling.

Card two uses a patterned paper from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper pack. I love how this rich dark wooden paper makes the elements on top of the card really pop.

But of course the main focal point of this card is the gorgeous Gold Hoop Embellishment tied with a bow of Gold 1/16 ” from the Forever Greenery Trim combo pack and another die cut piece from the Forever Gold Laser-cut Specialty Paper. The different green foliage are stamped and die cut using the Forever Fern Bundle.

The layout for my final card is a design I cased from a card made by Dani Dziama, who was an Artisan Design team member a few years ago. I loved the amount of white space on her card, but I changed all the main elements to make it my own.

The embossed white panel has been embossed using one of the Greenery embossing folders and I used one of the scalloped square layering dies to cut out some of the gorgeous Forever Greenery DSP.

For many of my photos today I’ve used one of the sheets of the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper as my background because I love the way the cards look against this DSP. This paper below looks like real wood – it is amazing!

The next Art With Heart Team member to share their new catalogue projects is the super creative Andrea Sargent. I can’t wait to see what she’s made tonight.

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 3 Bermuda Bay

Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase: Week 3 Bermuda Bay

Welcome to week three of our 2020-2021 Art With Heart Colour Creations Showcase.

Each week various members of our Art With Heart Colour Creations team will be bringing you weekly colour inspiration as we showcase our range of over 50 beautiful Stampin’ Up! colours in alphabetical order.

Week 3 -Bermuda Bay

Bermuda Bay is part of the Brights collection of colours. It is available as a Classic Stampin’ Pad and ink refill, Stampin Blends combo pack, Watercolour Pencils pack, Stampin’ Write marker, Brights 6×6 Designer Series Paper and Artistry Blooms DSP, or you can purchase it within any of the Brights collections.

Any shade of aqua or blue is in my top ten list of colours so I took the opportunity to use both Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana, paired with Basic Black and Whisper White. It’s such a fresh combination that really reflects the beautiful beaches near where I live.

Originally I was just going to make one card but because I didn’t want to waste the leftovers from card one I used them to make card two. And then there were more leftovers from card two and it seemed a crime to waste them so I made card three.

I could have kept going, making more and more cards with leftovers but I had to stop somewhere, so here’s what I made.

All three cards use a new bundle from the 2020-21 Annual Catalogue called the Blossoms in Bloom bundle. I just love the large layered floral dies in this set, as well as the font of the sentiments and the watercolour effect of the floral stamps.

For card one I cut the top layer from Bermuda Bay card stock, the bottom layer of the flower die from Coastal Cabana card stock and layered the dies onto a Basic Black mat to make them really pop.

I had so many beautiful pieces of Bermuda Bay card stock left over from card one, I decided to use the paper piecing technique to make card two.

This time I cut the top flower layer in Basic Black and layered it straight onto a whisper white base. I glued the Bermuda Bay flower petals into the black outline of the die and then cut another top flower layer die out of Coastal Cabana to get some leaf pieces as well as the tiny flower centres.

Yes, this card did take some patience but I love the effect it gives. Here’s another close up to show you the tiny detail you can achieve with this technique. Because the pieces fit so perfectly the card has such impact!

You can probably guess the inspiration for card three?

I now had a spare Coastal Cabana top layer flower die so I decided to use just part of this die cut, layered onto the bottom layer of the flower die which I cut out of Basic Black card stock. I trimmed the Coastal Cabana top layer down so I only used the floral section of the die on my finished card.

There are so many possibilities with the Blossoms in Bloom bundle, both in terms of the range of colours you can use and the different effects you can achieve.

Stampin’ Up! Country Home Hello Cards

Stampin’ Up! Country Home Hello Cards

This week our AWH Colour Creations team showcased one of the versatile neutrals: Basic Gray. If you missed the blog hop you can take a look at all the amazing projects here.

If I’m totally honest Basic Gray is not a colour I use that often but I found that once I started playing with it I couldn’t stop. So I thought I’d share with you today a couple more cards I made with Basic Gray.

Both cards feature a tiled background – one background is created with an embossing folder and the other one is with a tile stamp. But both use the lovely Country Home stamp set.

All the colours on both cards are from the Neutrals family, but mainly different shades of grays with just a tiny pop of green .

This tin tile embossing folder is a favourite of mine and it co-ordinates beautifully with this stamp set. I love this little white jug and the flower arrangement which I’ve used my Stampin’ Blends to colour in with Smokey Slate, Gray Granite and Mossy Meadow.

A little bit of shading underneath the jug with my Gray Granite blend really grounds this image and a simple bow of linen thread is the finishing touch.

For my other card I stamped a tile background and layered the other rustic jug onto an oval before fussy cutting the flowers with my paper snips

Once again I shaded underneath the jug – this time with my Smoky Slate blends – and added a bow of crinkle seam binding.

I hope I’ve inspired you to use this versatile neutral. I’ll be back next week with the AWH Colour Creations team to Showcase Bermuda Bay.
