Welcome to week six of our Art With Heart 2023-24 Colour Creations blog hop!
This week we are showcasing a brand new colour in the Brights family: Azure Afternoon. Azure Afternoon is gorgeous blue that sits somewhere between Tahitian Tide and the recently retired Pacific Point, the perfect colour for both a summer’s sky or the ocean.
Today’s card uses the the On the Ocean stamp set and the coordinating On the Ocean dies as well as the Fresh as a Daisy DSP, which is one of the selected Designer Series Papers on sale at 15% off for the entire month of June (you can see the entire list of papers on sale here).
My colour scheme for my card was inspired by this DSP.
There’s a couple of wave dies in the On the Ocean dies – I’ve used the border wave die to cut Basic White cardstock waves and then layer up an ocean.
Waves are given dimension and colour by alternating between plain white die cut layers (for the foam) and waves coloured with Azure Afternoon, using one of the small blending brushes to blend the colour from the ink pad to the card stock.
The top background sky layer is from this pattern sheet in the Fresh as a Daisy DSP (bottom left) as are the sails on the boat (top middle stripes).
For the background sky I’ve stamped Early Espresso seagulls from the On the Ocean Stamp set directly onto the background DSP. The “happy birthday” sentiment is also from the On the Ocean Stamp set, stamped onto a die cut cloud.
I’d originally die cut the sail from Crumb Cake card stock, however as soon as I swapped the crumb cake sail out for a sail die cut from the Wild Wheat striped DSP the whole card really came together as the sails reflected the background layer.
Now it’s time to hop on over to our next participant, the lovely Christine Blain – I can’t wait to see what Christine has made this week!
If at any time you find a broken link, you can find the complete list of all participants below.
Catherine Proctor – you are here!
Next Wednesday we’ll showcase another brand new core colour, Bubble Bath.
I hope you can join us then.
I love the layering on your waves and great use of the DSP on your card. If you didn’t point out it was the Fresh as a Daisy DSP I would have never have guessed it was from there.
Another gorgeous and cute card, Catherine. Your Azure Afternoon waves look beautiful in their different shades of light and dark. It would be such a fun card for a pirate themed birthday party.
How beautiful those Azure Afternoon waves are! The bold, bright, colour is really eye-catching. I ADORE the sail cut from that DSP, Cath – perfect choice to complement the detail in the DSP used for the sky. A fantastic card, my friend.
Initially its the intensity of colour that caused a big impression, but overall your card is just so nicely pieced, like a picture book illustration.Lovely.
Ahoy there Matey! What a fabulous card! all those waves are fantastic and the colouring and Pirate Ship and the sails! This is so perfect! I love it so much!
Oh wow, I love all those layers of waves with the white foam and the blended blue ink, so pretty. The DSP Sail is perfect with its stripes and coordinated beautifully with the background DSP!
Oh wow Cathy you’ve really created a fabulous card to feature Azure Afternoon. The layering of the waves is very effective as are the sails. Your card makes it hard to resist this bundle.
Wow! I love the sheet of dsp in the background, but there is so much more to love with all those layers!
Such an amazing card Cathy. The layering and shading of your waves is delightful – so much dimension. Love the way you have used the DSP for the sky and the sails and coordinated the colours. You are making it so hard to resist this set. xxx
Oh my! I absolutely LOVE your card! The striped sails look amazing, and the double layering in the ocean is GENIUS. One for the CASE file!
Fabulous card Cathy, I love the layering of your waves and the shading, it gives the waves the illusion of movement
