Welcome to week twenty-seven of our Art With Heart 2024-25 Colour Creations blog hop!
This week we’re featuring Gorgeous Grape, a rich purple from the Regals family and I’ve made a fancy fold called a cascading card to showcase this vibrant purple colour.
My colour scheme is fairly monochromatic, apart from the pop of Lemon Lime Twist on the DSP pattern on the inside of the coordinating handmade envelope.
This type of fancy fold is a wonderful substitute for when you want to give someone a bunch of flowers, however you can’t see them in person. It also stands up beautifully for display.
If you’d like to make a cascading card there are plenty of online videos you can watch for the directions. My basic measurements and instructions are as follows:
- Card base: two sheets of 21 x 28 cm Basic White card stock
- Measure down and mark 8cm along the 21 cm side of the card bases then use your trimmer to cut an angle from the 8cm mark to the opposite corner
- Discard the smaller piece from the card bases then score the larger pieces along the 28 cm side at 7, 14 and 21 cm.
- At the 7 and the 21 cm score lines mark the halfway mark and on one card base cut down to this mark and on the other cardbase cut up.
- Fold score lines and slide the cut pieces into each other to form one large cascading card.
- Decorate with DSP, flowers and leaves.
My DSP is from the Flowering Zinnias Designer Series Paper and the flowers and leaves are made using a mix of the Simply Zinnia Dies and the Bough Punch.
Because of the way this card stands up for display I’ve split the sentiment over the two sides of the card.
I’ve been quite liberal using the Gorgeous Grape Glossy Dots Assortment embellishments and the Fresh Freesia Tinsel Gems Three-Pack to decorate the card.
An oversized card like this needs a handmade envelope. You can make one out of a sheet of 12 x 12 DSP if you score and cut it as shown below.
I hope my intended recipient feels the love I’ve put into the creation of this card and the paper hug I’m sending her way!
Now it’s time to hop in over to our next participant, the lovely Andrea Sargent. I can’t wait to see what Andrea has made this week!

This is so pretty, Cathy, all those gorgeous flowers on the cascading design. The designer paper pattern is the perfect choice to display the flowers. You are very clever making a matching envelope too!
I love the cascade card and the gorgeous grape colour and design
Beautiful!!
It really is a Snap, same DSP and flowers I love this fold and the matching envelope.
What a lovely floral gift you’ve made, Cath! I love that checked DSP, and wondered where it was from, then realised I have that paper (oh dear). It makes a beautiful backdrop, evoking thoughts of a trellis, I think. The cascading flowers are just gorgeous.
